I wouldnt rely on this for searing steak. It might be possible but i wouldnt suggest this if you plan on using it for that purpose.
It will sear just fine. Lookup reverse sear. https://www.traegergrills.com/lea...se-searing

I see you posted this yesterday. I tried checking but had no success. Do you know if it's still available there?

Can any Traegers be modified to allow for a gas option if I wanted to quickly heat the grill for cooking vs. smoking or using pellets? Curious if you are limited to pellets only once making the switch.

Been looking for a solid replacement for my Weber Gas grill and want something with smoking capabilities, just not sure I want to switch over to not being able to use gas at all.
It runs off electricity and wood pellets. Pellets provide smoke and heat. Electric starts it , runs pellet auger, a temp controller.
Why would want propane? It would serve no purpose.

I suggest you call the store automated system. Speak or select Inventory and internet number. I was able to find one at a HD 30 mins away from my house for $349. If it is a floor model, you can negotiate the price down depending on the condition

Is this worth $349?. I have 2 in stock near me marked as clearance as per brickseek
Yea, Traeger's not the best price/quality there is, but at $349 it's great!

Why bother with this brickseek ymmv crap..you get your hopes up for no reason since 98% of stores will be out of stock of the item you want
Because sometimes you win and the lottery has a lot worse chance. I only seek when close and the price is an absolute steal. I'm at 20% success and feel very happy though I wish I had hit the jackpot every pull.

Thanks OP. Just scored one. New for $350! They had one left. It was outside so first rep couldn't find it when I called for availability. Second one found it no problem (it was outside with garden stuff).

Just a heads up for those that buy it not assembled, it's big and heavy (weight listed at 104lbs).

It will not sear just fine, most models of Traegers won't sear at all and really most pellet grills won't at all. A 22 will do better than most, but the temp on this will probably top out at low 400Fs no matter what you set it to. A 34 will be lucky to get to 350F.

If you add an aftermarket controller, you can usually bump this up quite a bit, my 22 Traeger will get up to 500F if you leave it alone for a hour and my Traeger 34 will get up to 360F if you leave it alone for a hour.
