It seems all/most non-medical masks being imported now have the disclaimer that they aren't for medical use and don't guarantee prevention of Covid-19. I have heard they are doing this so they can export and import masks more quickly and for legal reasons.

What's important is the presence of a middle melt-blown layer for filtration but there are different levels of quality and standards.

https://smartairfilters.com/en/bl...ctiveness/

YY/T0969 standard
Filtration Effectiveness
3.0 Microns (Bacteria Filtration Efficiency standard (BFE)) >= 95%
0.1 Microns (Particle Filtration Efficiency standard (PFE)). X (No Testing Requirement)

So they do offer some protection but there is no guarantee of how much it filters at 0.1 or 0.3 microns. Typically melt-blown layers filter at least 80% at a minimum but 95% is common at 0.3 micron. Either way these are better(offer more protection) than home-made or reusable cloth masks, if ASTM standard/certified masks become available at this price then we should go with those.

What's also important is fit of the mask, you can do this method to improve the fit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TTg53aAP8Q

or the other method with the rubber bands or strap which should be more effective but also more uncomfortable.

These masks are odd in that if you wear them correctly (blue side out) the side pieces flare out oddly. This doesn't happen if you wear it white side out (backwards).
I don't assume they're any better or worse than other brands. And there's no doubt this is an amazing price for 50 masks. I'm just personally trying to be more mindful of how my purchases are manufactured, and wanted to provide info that could be helpful to someone who might be trying to do the same.

These are good thick masks. Bought a few boxes for the family before.

Are these better than the $6 mask that was on SD front page?

Trying to figure out the difference between the BYD surgical masks and the BYD face masks. Specs on their website look exactly the same.

Figured it out. They have an ASTM Level 3 surgical mask, an ASTM Level 2 surgical mask, and these masks with no rating.

Anyone else experience ear loop problems from the last deal? The boxes I purchased seem to be fine so far.

I also had that same exact problem. It lifts off the sides of your face a bit when your wear it correctly (blue out).
