Microsoft Pro IntelliMouse ($39.23 + Free Shipping)

Microsoft Store has the Microsoft Pro Intellimouse for $39.23 in Shadow black or Shadow white. Shipping is free.

The mouse is a reboot of the IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 with an upgraded sensor vs the original IME 3.0, braided cable, and customizable lighting.

Compared with the Classic Intellimouse released in 2017, the sensor is upgraded and good for gaming. The Classic is not recommended for gaming and it was intended to be more of an office mouse. The Pro also has a gradient color scheme where the top is darker than the bottom. The Classic has previously been on sale for $21.99 so if you don't plan to use it for gaming you can wait around for that price to come back and save $20.

My thoughts:

Compared to other gaming mice in this price range, it does not have buttons on the right side and a hardware DPI switch. DPI must be adjusted in the software which also allows you to customize the buttons. However I think it looks much classier than gaming mice, which have gone off the deep end with overstyling to look like a Transformer. Much better for office.

For productivity use, it doesn't have as many buttons and isn't wireless or as customizable as the MX Master. But for people who are familiar with this mouse shape, they will find it much more comfortable. Personally I love the Intellimouse shape and the MX518 shape. MX Master is always recommended for ergonomics but my 8x19 cm hand with 1-3-1 palm grip really did not agree with the shape of the MX Master series. MX Master is the only mouse I've used that gives me hand cramps and I think it's due to the aggressive thumbrest, heaviness, and oversized shape.

The most comparable mouse in this price range is probably the Logitech G MX518 which I am also a fan of. It has more features for sure.

$40 is overpriced for what this is. I used the Intellimouse for nearly 20 years until I decided to finally go wireless. With Microsoft failing to make a wireless version of this, I've become adjusted to other mice that have the extra tilting action of the scroll wheel, which this mouse doesn't--and they're less pricey. Sorry, Microsoft, $40 only brings in the hardcore enthusiasts who don't want to adjust their wrist muscles to make use of better mice. Everybody else has moved on to better things.
