Target is offering $50 off a $100+ purchase with approval of a credit or debit RedCard.

This offer will be live on August 2, and is visible in the sneak peek of their weekly ad: https://weeklyad.target.com/promo...802&page=J

When the offer is live, apply here: https://www.target.com/redcard/about

Note that applying for the debit version of the card does not cause a hard pull on your credit report. The coupon is valid through October 3, 2020, and is valid for online, in-store, pickup, and same-day delivery orders.

I applied for a debit RedCard the last time this promo ran, and was approved after 2 days. (Approval for debit may be instant if you're willing to let Target's 3rd-party partner access your online bank account. I skipped that and had to verify small deposit amounts instead.) You can use your RedCard online immediately after approval, but the coupon and card for in-store use are sent via postal mail...took a little over a week for mine to arrive.

Exclusions: Items sold & shipped by Target Plus™ Partners, alcohol, Apple products, Baby Alive Grow Up Baby, Barbie Dreamhouse, Bose, Casper, clinic & pharmacy, dairy milk, DockATot, Disney Frozen Castle, DSLR cameras & lenses, Elvie, Fitbit, gift cards, Google, HALO baby, Hasbro games (Classic Monopoly, Connect Four, Jenga, Rubik's Cube, Sorry!, Trouble), Hot Wheels id, HP, Infant Optics, JBL, LEGO, Levi's Red Label, LG OLED TV, limited-time designer partnerships, Mega Bloks, mobile contracts, Motrin pain relief, NERF Ultra, Nintendo hardware and Switch games, Polder, Peg Perego, Philips Avent, power shave, power dental, Harry's and Flamingo, prepaid cards, PS4 hardware, Samsung TVs, simplehuman, Sonos, Sony electronics, Target Optical, Thomas and Friends Wood, Traeger, Tylenol pain relief, 23andMe, Weber, and Xbox One hardware.

Is $50 the most Target gives out for a new RedCard, or has it been higher in the last 1-2 years?

Even though there is no hard pull, target still needs SSN for debit card right? Is there a way to skip giving SSN?

Typically any credit or debit card requires SSN. Why are you reluctant to give it out?

Also, why get a debit card when a credit card gives more protection?

Typically this would only drop you score by 5 points or less. Not that big a deal imo. I guess it really depends how bad your score is.
Don't think you can determine the number of points. If you plan to apply for new credit cards or on a house hunt, the less number of hard pulls, the better it is. Also, i typically never get store branded credit cards.

I was kicking myself too until I realized that was $40 off $40. That's a much better promo.

Yep, debit cards DO NOT show up on credit reports. That's the best and only reason for getting the red card debit over credit card.

I guess the later part is more important for me. Banks like chase will not let you open new accounts if you've opened more than 5 cards in the past 24 months. I'd much rather have a Chase card offer than a 50 off 100 coupon. Debit cards don't count which is why some folks would prefer the debit card variant.

I've been thinking about getting a Redcard simply for the free shipping, especially with COVID going on. I know that limitations apply for free shipping but does anyone know what kind of items are not free to ship? Are the majority of the items free to ship?
