Looks like decent deal. Lowest tier Thinkpad laptop - compared to a lot of others in same price range - looks like RAM can be added - one SODIMM slot in addition to soldered memory. Comes with Win10 pro.

Is the integrated webcam any good? I keep getting these 720p cam laptops and the quality is very grainy and doesn't look 720p. Do I need to just go with a 1080p webcam? We do a lot of video conference calls.

Generally speaking, most laptop webcams are "not very good". If you need good quality video, then you'll be much happier with a dedicated 1080p webcam.

That being said, I find that most teleconferences are FAR more productive for business than videoconferences. (I won't get into the details here, my laundry list is much too long.) I would intentionally stick to a poorer webcam, if I were permitted to do so.

This is pretty nice.

Wish it still had 2 SO-DIMM slots and 1x M.2 2280 and 1x 2.5 SATA like the previous ThinkPad E495 model, though. Or 2x M.2 2280 would've been OK, too.

In practical terms, having 1x M.2 2242 and 1x M.2 2280 means only one slot is easily upgradable.

Only one memory slot? Well that's not only to cut costs, but costs in not having to add better cooling, as the system wont get as hot, when you aren't using its full dual channel capability.
That and why gimp your high end laptop gaming sales?

It has one soldered as well. If you add a module it will run dual channel.

Is there a listing that states one soldered 8gb ram with an open slot? If it's 4 GB soldered and 4gb populating the slot already then, yes, you can still upgrade the RAM to 12gb, but it will not be dual channel. I'm curious if you have this spec sheet as I would like to take a look for more info

Wouldn't the GPU on this be too weak to meaningfully affect gaming laptop sales? As for heat, this has 8GB soldered and 1 free RAM slot. Reckon heat probably would've been around the same.

Granted, I do think this model is a bit smaller and lighter than the E495 so there's that.
