Lol, not even close. I had this laptop before and it performed much worse than a 1660Ti after applying the thermal fix (setting boost to efficient aggressive). Without the thermal fix, it performs similarly to a 1660 Ti and worse than a 2060 Max Q with CPU temperatures at 100C. This is a garbage laptop. The chassis is also recycled from the G3 3590 meaning that the hinge is guaranteed to fail. Also incorrect official drivers will lead to crashes or BSODs on this machine. You have to use AMD driver 20.10.10 to avoid them despite 20.10.18 being the latest release on Dell's site.

Source: Owned a Dell G5 SE and now own a Asus G14 with the 2060 Max-Q.

I wasn't fully aware about the panel hinge problems but you kinda forgotten about the busted speakers. Not to mention the lousy ms response time, sRGB, crappy smart shyt. Matter fact the Dell G5 SE AMD 4800H is thy slowest of all other 4800h brand laptop models. And the thermal can reach high as 108c I also had shipped my Dell G5 SE back and took a loss. 🤬 😷

Wow yeah, Dell definitely botched the implementation on this one, 5600m should not perform that poorly.

OP here - The screen seems to have over 100% sRGB so I think it might make for a good photo/video editing laptop with the potential to play some AAA games casually. Looks aside, if the thermals hold up, looks like it will last a good number of years. Thoughts?

Technical specs like 100% sRGB and IPS don't mean squat these days IMO. Seen plenty of bad IPS that are actually worse than my VA TV out of the box. Not necessarily calibrated correctly out of the box so you'd have to buy something like X-Rite i1Display Pro to fix if colors are off. Also, another thing people don't mention or take into account is 100%sRGB is probably only at certain frequency like 60hz probably goes to crap at 144hz which is one of the selling points! But from previous comments sounds like it's best to avoid this laptop just due to thermal issues!
