After spending a little time going through the threads and some reviews, my takeaway is that the Anker Q20, Taotronics 85, and Taotronics 90 are pretty much equal on quality and bang for your buck for main features like sound, fit and ANC.

Key differences and nuances from my reading are:
-the 90s (and probably the 85s) have a larger ear cup which some found more comfortable than the Q20. But the Q20s have DEEPER ear cups so your ears are less likely to touch the grills with those over the Taos.
-The 85s have USB-C and quick charging which neither the 90 or Q20 have
-The 90s may have a more premium (but not necessarily better) build over the 85 and Q20, but they are also heavier because of it
-The 90 is not necessarily a newer/better model over the 85 as the 85 actually has longer battery life and modern USB-C

All said and done, I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you choose of the three. For me, I'm leaning toward the Q20, but the smaller ear cup comments and lack of USB-C are two big cons.

The 85s are $37+tax shipped directly from Taotronics right now also. If you choose that route, just know coupons don't appear to stack with their SOUND85 code.

EDIT:
I ended up buying the Anker Q20s and couldn't be more impressed with the overall experience. I haven't had a chance to really test out the effectiveness of the noise cancelling, but it does work.

I know this deal has ended, but maybe my feedback will help someone pull the trigger or not next time them dip to $40 (or less):

-The build quality feels good and it's well made in all the right places.
-The super flexible headband makes them feel like you could sit on them by accident and they would take it.
-In my research there were comments that said the clamping force on these was too strong, and I couldn't disagree more. I own probably 50+ pairs of headphones and these are right in the sweet spot for me on the force front and I have a very large head. 7 and 7/8th being my preferred fitted hat size for comfort.
-Ear cup seal and comfort is excellent. Love the soft and pliable foam material. Although the ear cups are not as deep as I would have imagined based on the research I did that said they were deep, they are deep enough.
-I can see why some people say the ear cups are a little on the small side shape-wise, but I consider my self to have big ears and they fit around mine just fine. No different than what I would consider as an average headphone earcup size.
-Sound quality is top notch for this novice audiophile with a warm, and colorful sound that I would consider perfect for 95% of listeners. Not bass heavy, but I would say bass rich. When it hits, it hits. But not in a muddy or muted way. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to any type of music with these.
-My research indicated that sound quality was much better with noise cancelling turned on, but I don't notice a difference other than that sound stage shift of not having the NC filter our ambient noise.
-Volume on my Macbook Pro, connected via BT, playing Lofi hip hop on Youtube gets loud enough to be comfortably loud, but not beyond, which could be an issue for some that like to crank it or need to drown out loud sounds with loudness.
-Love the simplicity of the buttons. Placement is a little awkward, but that's probably just because I'm not used to it yet. NC and power buttons require a hold to activate/deactivate, so you're not going to accidentally power them off or turn NC off.
-USB C over microUSB would be nice, but the simple reality is have 4 kids with old Android phones and Fire Tablets kicking around, so microUSB isn't going anywhere in my house for a while.

Overall, these are fantastic headphones for $40. Even if you're not after noise cancellation, these seem like great all-day cans for work or travel or whatever.

Don't order them from Walmart though. I had a GC so I went through Wally, but it took a week for them to arrive vs 2 days from Amazon.

" TaoTronics 90 Vs Soundcore Life Q20
Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2020
Verified Purchase
TL;DR
The TaoTronic 90's are better in every way, unless you're a basshead. Full comparison below, enjoy:

Fit:
The Life Q20's have a tighter clamp and firmer memory foam ear pads that have a softer feeling leather. They do a great job of keeping your ears from touching the driver wall. The TaoTronics 90 have bigger pads, but a smaller ear opening much softer memory foam. Your ears are most likely going to touch the drivers but the driver wall is nicely padded so you shouldn't feel any discomfort.
Verdict: Personal preference. For me personally, the TaoTronics 90's are more comfortable for long periods of use. My ears don't get as hot and the clamp isn't as tight.

Build & Quality:
The Q20's have a nice gloss plastic, but creak... a lot. They come with a small bag for carrying. The TT90's have smooth non gloss plastic with metallic ear cups. The TT90's also come with a hard clam shell case and the buttons feel noticeably higher quality, sitting more flush with the ear cups.
Verdict: TaoTronics 90, no contest

Noise Cancelling:
The Q20's do a decent job for the price. Have more white noise than the TT90's. I think they're fine if you just need some ANC heaphones for the office or home, but I wouldn't use these if your main use is for when you're flying. The TT90's have better ANC with less white noise.
Verdict: TaoTronics 90

Sound:
The Q20's are V-Shaped and have more bass and sharper highs than the TT90's. With ANC off, you get even more bass and the Q20's end up sounding very similar to the Soundcore life Q10's but aren't quite as clear. Don't bother using the BASS UP function unless you want to drown out everything with bass. Regardless, the Q20's are def good if you're a basshead. The TT90's are what I'd consider a more "consumer friendly" balanced sound. There's plenty of bass and the highs don't get too sharp. They don't get as loud as the Q20's, but they also don't have any distortion at any volume.
Verdict: Soundcore Life Q20 for bassheads, TT90's for everyone else.

Summary:
Overall, I think they're both great headphones. But I consider the TT90's to be a slight to major step up over the Q20's in almost every category; they're better built, more comfortable, come with an actual case and have better ANC. Unless you're a basshead, the TT90's are a no brainer and are often on sale for the same price as the Q20's. If you don't need ANC, I'd suggest saving a little money and getting the Soundcore Life Q10's (or if you're not as much of a basshead, the Tribit Xfree Tune)."

Anyone have a good comparison between these and the Sony wh1000xm3 .

A blind sound test so there isn't any bias based on price.

Is this a good price for these? I have read good things about them, and would like to buy a pair, but I'm willing to wait if they will get cheaper.

Yes. Very good price. Normally $60 on Amazon and sometimes drops to $50. I think it's been this low once before. Very good for conference calls on a factory floor, which is a pretty great test Smilie But from Amazon though, as they've price matched.
