Great for nostalgia. Terrible for first time players as the graphics and gameplay are extremely dated.
It's funny because I, like many others, totally missed this game in the 90s -- the name gave no indication it was its own game ("64" was added to ports all the time). With that said, the game was criticized when released for its outdated sprite graphics. Funnily enough, that's one of the reasons it actually holds up so well. Far more appealing to the eye than those ungodly early 3D shooters and their blocky polygons. It just really makes me wish I had played this game 20 years earlier; I would've absolutely loved it back then. It really improves the Doom/Doom 2 formula in so many ways without reinventing the wheel (although the level design and puzzles can be a bit annoying).

Worth it? I've never played this game before and I like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 just for the campaign mode that I gave that a 9/10 score (1 is worst; 10 is outstanding)

Probably not. It's a fun game for people with fond memories of Doom 1 and Doom 2, but this game is basically Doom 2.5. Really better looking and more polished than the original games, but still dated gameplay mechanics.

It's an underrated game since it wasn't widely played when originally released, but much, much different than modern first-person shooters.

Agreed. I had always assumed it was a port and didn't realize until the recent re-release that it has its own campaign. Also I completely agree on the sprite front; they've aged dramatically better than the 3D games from the time.

I'd love to see a re-release of Quake on the Switch with some of the later enging (GLQuake or QuakeWorld, etc.).

I'd pay for original Quake, preferably with multiplayer and team fortress mods. Bigtime nostalgia. Would also pay for Q3Arena. But Doom... not so much.

I never played this when it came out but got it with Doom Eternal and think it is super fun on it's own.

You go level to level killing monsters and solving puzzles.

I think it not only holds up but is great for first time players that may want to jump in.

Definitely recommend it especially at this price.

I don't have Doom 64 but have Doom 2 on XBox, and it is a blast two-player coop, and the graphics are less blocky on a half screen. There aren't many good 2-player coop shooters, and the old Doom was fun cause you'd have mobs of bad guys on screen, which you didn't have in modern shooters until maybe recently.
