Reviews
• Customer: BestBuy customer rating 4.4 / 5 stars (618 reviews)
• Pro: Difficult to find pro reviews for this specific model. Closest I could get was this RTINGS review for the MF644Cdw, not the MF642Cdw (the featured deal): https://www.rtings.com/printer/re...s-mf644cdw. "There is a variant of the Canon imageCLASS MF644Cdw called the MF642Cdw which doesn't support duplex scanning or fax. While we haven't tested this variant, we'd expect it to otherwise perform similarly, for the most part."

Specs confuse me. They say "double-sided" copies but "single-sided" scans. Shouldn't the feed do the same for both?

I don't believe this is always the case. While printing is duplex (you don't have to manually re-feed to print both sides), scanning is not (you have to manually re-feed to scan a two-sided document).

Ok. Thanks. I might wait until a 700 series model is on sale that can also scan double-sided.

This is not a good price for this printer based on past Slickdeals posts.

We've seen this for $250 of late, but we've seen it for $170 multiple times late in 2019.

Based on past deals, it's hard to disagree. But, TBH, I've been struggling to find a good, color AIO laser printer during these times. Finding something in stock, with next day shipping, at $80 off right before the start of the 2020 COVID 19 school year stars seemed like something worth sharing. First post, so I'll be sure to include past deal history next time I post. Thanks!

I have duplex scan from the 644. I rarely use it, duplex print i think is sufficient

It's not. Costco is selling MF741Cdw for $279.99 with free shipping. It includes starter CMY cartridges and a full standard black cartridge.

They're also including a 500-sheet ream of paper Smilie

This. Honestly, most of the time if you are scanning a large document at your desk\in your office, flipping the stack of paper around and putting it back on the feeder to do the opposite side is no big deal.

Completely different model. If he's looking for double-sided capabilities, the 741 only supports printing where the 743 has "Single Pass / 2 Sided Scan, Duplex Print, Scan, Copy, Fax". Also adds fax support. But agreed - the BestBuy price is not a good deal!

I got it for $170 in November, but it was pre-Covid, so the world was quite different then. Ever since WFH, printer prices have gone way up. You're correct though that it was recently $250.

I agree with everything that you said. For people who don't care about these features though, they (all the 700 series Canons) are functionally the same printer, as their size, speed, cartridge type and yield and durability are exactly the same.
