I appreciate you posting all your bike deals. You must be addicted to shopping for bikes from smaller online retailers. :-)

For benchmarking purposes:

http://www.bikesdirect.com/produc...ike-xx.htm

$1400
Carbon frame and fork (except the steerer is aluminum, which makes it a few oz heavier, but easier/safer to work with for novice)
Shimano Ultegra shifting and brakes.
Crank is FSA
wheel is not impressive, but at least a big brand name, and tubeless ready.
Pre-order only, and 52cm size only (I was shocked to see this for a pre-order...)

I've been looking for a bike this summer, but this is way beyond my price range.
Was hoping to find a decent bike for less than $300.

Expectation is to use the bike to ride to the store and to attach a bike trailer to it and shuttle my 2 toddlers to the park.

Any suggestions?

Have you dealt wiht BikesDirect before? I'm generally in the market for an upgrade from my older road bike and will put them on my list if they're a good option.

Price through Diamondback direct corporate discount (anyone can sign up) is $1360 with free shipping when in stock (currently out of stock).

Unless this is a deal for just being in stock, the price is not a deal.

Thanks for posting bike related stuff though.

Every time I've checked the corporate discount page for Raleigh and Diamondback in the last few months they've been out of stock of virtually everything. Not a very useful comparison at the moment.

I have not brought anything from them in over 10 years, but you can google it. They are probably the biggest generic bike seller in America. They've been around for a long time. They are reliable/trustworthy. They aren't like Amazon or Walmart where you can abuse them by buying underwear and use for a week and then claim they are defective and return it with free returned shipping. They WILL ship you a bike as described on the webpage in a timely manner. The bike will arrive in good condition and 99% tuned. You might have to do slight adjustments to wheel/brake/gears, but that should be it.

Bikesdirect bikes are good from what I hear but you have to put the bike yourself together. If its your first road bike etc, I strongly recommend a Local Bike Shop (LBS) - most people get the sizing, bike fitting wrong on their first bike and end up being miserable. LBS often includes bike fitting as part of buying from them.

Thanks to both of you. I'll definitely keep them in mind. My current bike is an older Specialized Allez that's been fitted to me so I should be able to match up measurements pretty closely when setting up a replacement.
