Shows $24.97 for me, in CA. Wonder why pricing is so all over the place for this?

Judging from the pictures in the reviews on the home depot site, it seems like these bits are made of a softer metal like you would get from harbor freight.

I don't like when they have bits made for a screwdriver and instead put them on a ratchet.

There's often going to be a problem when you take a tool tip designed for driving by hand and add such a long lever arm to it. I don't care who makes it, if the fastener is stuck and you apply enough leverage, the bit is going to break.

This is not the right tool for the job of breaking frozen fasteners. It's best to use a penetrating oil, heat, and an impact for those situations.

But for normal cases in which you stay within the designed torque specs of the fasteners, these socket bits can often make the job easier as compared to their screwdriver counterparts. And the diamond tips aren't gimmicks, they really do help to bite into the fastener and reduce the risk of stripping it out.

I'm curious on the application on where you need to torque these heads down by ratchet

For me, it's more of an access issue. Working in a crowded engine bay or under a dash, there is not always room to get a driver in there or to position your hand in such a way as to be able provide enough turning power to loosen a bolt. A set like this, along with a variety of extensions, gives you more options to best attack that hard to get to bolt.

Plus, you can use the sockets with a torque wrench when putting things back together.

It's for access in right spaces and awkward angles or for times where you need slightly more torque than what a screwdriver can provide.

Honestly, though, that's also why you don't need some super strong forged bits. You are not torquing things down or busting up big rusty bolts with these, or at least you shouldn't be.

Heck I might get one just for the 100 teeth ratcheting mechanism. My 1/4 ratchet is an old shitty teardrop craftsman that's loose and floppy as hell.

Showed as 24.97 for me and when I checked out it dropped to 19.97 for me. Picked it up this AM. Nice solid set with lifetime warranty.

I needed it so I was prepared to spend the $25, but it was slick when the price dropped for me at checkout.
