Got this email...

We noticed that more than 90 days have passed since your last order.
As stated in our Service Agreement your Tello number +1 (xxx) xxx xxxx together with your Pay As You Go balance (if any), will automatically expire on 08/14/2020.

To keep this number and avoid service termination you can go ahead and subscribe to a Tello plan in the following days. Regardless of any account activity (call, SMS, data usage), your number will expire if no order is registered by 08/14/2020.

Please note that once deactivated, a Tello number can no longer be retrieved.

I think Tello uses Sprint. But now that sprint has merged with tmobile, what's going to happen?
As far as coverage is concerned, I'm guessing CDMA will shut down, and everything with both brands will really on 4G LTE until 5G is widespread.

I just got one too for the first time and I've let several phones sit for six months. The notice is worded poorly, they usually mean a billable event, text or call every three months. I don't think a plan is required, unless they changed something.

I'm not even sure which phone that number applies too. I can use the tello app on that number without the phone for a billable event. btw, wifi app calls out only.

just looked into it, I don't think that phone was used in three years. They are overdue for crackdown on glove box phones. Also looking at plans, every plan option comes with free unlimited text, even data only plans. So I could call out over wifi and get free text for $5/mo. Something about renewing early for rollover

Liberty Wireless is having $100 yearly plan, which come out around $8.33/m for unlimited talk/text + 1GB LTE. Hard capped data but not like it matter for most ppl buying that tier cuz you already know your usage before pulling the trigger, but I give tello a slight edge for that. However, Tello is extremely picky with their device list and you will see not much ppl can jump in. I was going to but my device is not compatible. Liberty is GSM running T-Mobile, definitely better than legacy Sprint.

Oh and they have great customer support through email as well.
Tello has data rollover. If you manually renew your plan each month before it auto renews, they will rollover your data to the next month's. They are your bits, you paid for it. Why lose it? That and unlimited 2G after LTE is worth quite a lot.

I wouldn't say T-Mobile is definitely better than Sprint. Legacy Sprint service for me is twice as fast as T-Mobile.

I'm actually glad that there's an MVNO offering a slightly better rate* (when one pays for 12 months upfront, and you don't care for unlimited throttled data after high speed allowance). The point I made is that $10/mo for a 1GB plan, paid monthly, that features native calls and texts is not expensive (contrary to the assertion of the user I was replying to).

Seem like Tello start enforcing their 90 days no purchase policy for 'Pay As You Go' account holders.
I've just received an email that says my account will be deactivated if i don't buy anything within next 7 days. Currently i have $16 dollars balance but i didn't recharge my account for at least 4 months.

p.s. I've Tello since 2016 and it was ok until now. Seem like Tmobile / Sprint merger got em by the b..ls.

You can't blame them for enforcing minimum use on paygo. I've been getting by on for years on a $10 credit and that won't keep the lights on. They have been going for 4yrs and I'm rooting for the little MNVO to stay in business. It's just a back up plan here anyway, more of a phone hobby.
