FWIW, here are the retail prices right now, for comparison:
  • $410 (Intel Core i7-10700K)
  • $200 (GIGABYTE Z490 AORUS ELITE)
  • $118 (OLOy 32GB DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800))
= $728 retail
- $660 (this deal)

= $68 savings off retail

This processor smashes my current Core i7-3770k. Do you think it is worth the upgrade? Bought that setup in 2014.

buyer beware: DONT BUY GIGABYTE MAINBOARD they are sucks with cpu voltage and stupid BSOD. my mainboard is dead within warranty and they refues to rma it
You probably got a lemon that duly died within warranty period. If they dishonored the warranty, keep calling them until you get someone who is the right person.

So, I recently built a system with Ryzen 9 3900X ($350 with amazon/amex) and MSI MAG X570 MB($220 from Newegg).

Is this intel combo a better deal? I mostly use my PC for flight Sim and machine learning applications.

Any help is appreciated!

I am still using an i7-970... Need to upgrade but will probably go AMD to save money, but as you can tell I will hold on to things till it's absolete, maybe this is worth it?
For those still rocking the x58 platform I'd highly recommend getting a 6 core Xeon that you can overclock. There all over auction sites for around 50 bucks or less. I did it to mine and it definitely gave it some extra pep. They are also built on a later run so they are less NM and run cooler for the relative clocks. I'm still using my x58 for an extra PC at home and it's a very usable machine. Got it on Slickdeals many years ago.

Just wondering - what is the point of a "K" version of this chip when there is almost no headroom for overclocking from all the samples reviewed? The temps run very high up to 100C with even the best watercooler loops.

Is it the same socket? 970 was a LGA 1366 Socket.

Typically, Intel is better for gaming and single-thread intensive applications like the Adobe suite. AMD is better for multi-threaded applications and things that are computationally intensive like video rendering and modelling.
If you are more into gaming, Intel. If you are more creative or professional, AMD.

Speculation: AMD has been trailing behind Intel with gaming, but Intel has been struggling which may allow AMD to even out with the Ryzen 4000 series.
If AMD is close to Intel in gaming performance and about half the price, I would rather save the cash.

Been rockin a i7-4790k paired with a 1080ti for a few years with no issues. Also have the upgrade itch.
Same, upgrading this year due to WHEA_UNCONTROLLABLE_ERROR that just wont go away... I tried under clocking over clocking and just normal clocking and all have the issue Frown i guess it just decided enough was enough.

No idea, but I think the base ghz is higher on the k version vs nonK.

"I can't find any at this price" Type in 10700K at the top of the search bar, click search. The second result it Microcenter one. They even have a further 20 buck discount if you bundle with matched MB. Before you thumb me down, I need to tell this is the new selling price and it been for weeks.

I think you're right.

"K" used to represent overclocking potential at least +20%. Now, it only stands for a slightly higher base clock speed.
