Interesting read wrt Sagan:

Why are you dropping this 17 year old opinion piece here without context? I don't have time to read it but it feels like you're pushing an agenda. Climate change is accepted by an overpowering majority of the scientific community.

You may not want to know this considering you already own a copy, but the Jodie Foster version appears to be on Audible as well.

To anyone interested, here's the link:
https://www.amazon.com/Contact-Ca...B0001KIH2W
That's the abridged version: 4 hours vs 14 hours for the full version read by Laurel Lefkoe.

The straw man here is that all science is based on flimsy off the top of your head equations and not decades of data, models, and open debating results. The scientists I know are skeptical as hell.

I read his work, as well as others like Richard Dawkins, Cox, etc , and it is a good way to understand how impossible Big Bang Theory is. But you would have to understand other aspects of reality first, and know how physics has set laws.
I am so happy science is now starting to show the public how the theoretical folks are just dreaming up BS...But Sagan is a great sci-fi author.

I mean, this isn't even a little bit true. But cool story.

Neil deGrasse Tyson has already surpassed him. It's one of those cases where the student defeats his master.
I disagree. They are both excellent cheerleaders for science, but they are so different and really reflect their eras. Tyson, especially in partnership with Bill Nye, bring more bombastic approaches to selling the wonders of science, while Sagan was so calm in conveying its splendor.

I personally prefer Tyson's version of COSMOS and I listen to his StarTalk podcast when I have time, but I'm a product of Tyson and not Sagan's generation.

It is "surpasses" not defeats and only time would tell if that were to be the case, since Sagan's career accomplishments are concluded, while Tyson's career is still a work in progress subject to future hits and misses.

I love Neil, but he preaches to the choir a bit. He sometimes portrays a smugness or even antagonism that might turn off a potential learner, like he's rolling his eyes at them for not knowing something. In particular, I felt Carl's presentation of Cosmos had a lot more humility and patience. I think Carl "reached across the aisle" more effectively and poetically.

True, and Carl did not suffer from RDS like Tyson does with TDS.

No one matches Carl, NO-ONE!

Also notice how the movie version shows clearly Fake News CNN in all its glory, the deep state and the coverups. So true!
