This version is honestly way better than the reboot. It has a blade runner atmosphere and great cast. The story is more interesting too. The reboot has no story, just raiding the building and hardly any memorable cast.
I enjoy both. This one was first and was a campy comic classic to watch, like Dick Tracy. But the harsher and mature Dredd stood out for its share of work.

You know what will make this movie even better?
If we add Rob Schneider to it!

Said no viewer ever. But apparently a movie exec did. More than once.

Made me laugh, but I have nothing against Rob. He has his moments.
I am surprised this is a FP deal though. It isn't a great movie at a great price or on a new platform for the price.

34 million domestically means 6.5 million people saw it roughly, which means there's plenty of kids and teens who at the time loved it. There was also a video game which for a licensed game was pretty fun and had decent graphics. I doubt any of us who enjoyed the movie before the internet was a big deal cared it was a bomb. Superhero/high fantasy wasn't really a trend then so it was a gamble to think a non major label hero could hang. A crappy Batman movie had fast food and TV shilling hard, Dredd didn't get that benefit. Not revisionist history, just sharing the way people not posting on alt.fan.dredd or rec.movies felt
I was born in 1982. I remember when this movie came out. I was not impressed with it. Always heard about how different it was from the comics. Apparently the studio didn't want to pay for Stallone then not see his face. The movie seemed a little goofy to me, and I definitely prefer the grittier new one. To each their own. Later watched spawn in theaters and was more disillusioned. The cape was too expensive to cgi constantlyFrown

Yes, because popularity is a great measure to judge things by. Guess Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift are the best musicians too right?
Considering that both Judge Dredd (1995) and Dredd (2012) were box office failures, this is the like Bjork and Tori Amos fans arguing which musician is better. To each their own.

I don't have anything against him either, in the right place.

Adding him to a Judge Dredd movie to turn that story into a buddy cop story like Lethal Weapon wasn't the best idea ever, LOL.

Rob isn't so bad when he has good material to work with. Heck, he and Sly worked together in this and then Demolition Man. And then Rob did have a couple comedies under his belt later. He just retired to being one of Adam Sandler's motley crew of performers. When Adam Sandler does a comedy movie, he gets some of his old buddies paid and working.
