It is an 2018 model that carried over for 2019. The new 2020 900H model came out a few months ago adding HDMI 2.1, ATSC 3.0 and VRR (pending Firmware update) This F model gets brighter, overall they perform similarly.
Help me understand what a firestick provides that this android tv does not already have?
Much better. This is a 120hz native panel. That alone is a world of difference. Also Sony has far better QC and their panel uniformity is the best of nearly any manufacturer. I went through the TCL six-series lottery four times before giving up and buying a way more expensive Samsung Q80R. Did my research, though, and this x900f is incredible for sub-$900! If you want more direct comparison info go to Rtings.com.

Get them while they are hot. I am surprised no one is jumping on this deal. Maybe everyone is still sleeping lol

Great deal on a TV that does everything in the "better" category and has no downsides

Would a firmware update give this HDMI 2.1 or other "future proofing" as well? I was interested in the newer one because of its apparent comparability with the PS5. But I'm not sure how necessary that all is...

This is a hell of a deal. Especially if you can pair it with a $25 4K Fire Stick.

Mainly responsiveness due to the outdated processor in this tv. It's a little sluggish

It was on clearance at BB for $1,020 but doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere either

No HDMI 2.1, but do you REALLY need it? if not, then this is an excellent deal! the UI on it can get sluggish at times due to the older processor but if that really bothers you, get an NVIDIA Shield, Apple TV or ROKU.

I have this, just Google the programs you can remove or disable, no sluggishness here
