I remember watching this with Nanashi subs.
They added in their own technical garbal, and just made the anime much better. I then watched the official english subs, and it was banal and lifeless.
That said nanashi did get a few translations wrong. Sometimes making you scratch your head wondering what really happened.
I wonder if anybody has ripped the Blu-ray and out of their subs? If not I'm going to have to hire another person again to do it for me and time them properly and everything.
I'm not sure about nowadays, but back then most fansubs were encoded in the video stream (just added to the original image), so you wouldn't be able to extract them like an SRT file and mux them with the bluray. It let them do cool things, like use crazy fonts, match the text location/angle with onscreen signs, and color lyrics as they were sung karaoke style. Most importantly, it prevented other groups from ripping off their work (aside from manually transcribing the translated text). Looking at a yarr site for anime, the Nanashi episodes are AVI files, so this seems to apply to them.

Well I bet you there are what is out there that retype everything or get ahold of the original scripts somehow. Anbu and other groups what's so much better than the official ones.

The packaging in the Amazon listing doesn't mention digital, is there a code inside?

Kind of? It is another Mecha anime. But it's got a really good human-involved story line, and sci-fi reasoning behind the way the mechas (and other tech things) work. It's a good show.

This is one of the best animes I have ever watched. And it has a clear story arc to the end with a movie to tie it all up.

Great Deal for a Classic Anime, series is 50 episodes long so at $19 that's 38 cents an episode. Just make sure not to bother with AO since it's garbage.

the image of the backside of the container shows it includes the funimation digital copy, so probably a code inside
