Before anyone calls this ObamaPhone, note that this program came into being during the George W. Bush administration. It's a great deal obviously... Even more generous than a $10 plan at Tello or Boost. Perhaps a bit too generous for being free.
How dare you take someone's rage and thrown it down the toilet by talking facts.

Either way it must be an alright program since it's still in service.

I don't qualify (which is ok, as I'm not currently in need) but this is a great deal for those who do!

I'm glad this deal was posted because I had no idea such a thing existed. However, after doing some research, I went with a different provider:

It's easy to swap phones on Safelink once you have activated a sim. Don't go through CSR, they will tell you they don't support it. I've used several unlocked phone swaps usually by simply swapping sims and restart.

Even my $129 LG V40 has a full LTE hotspot on VZW tracfone sim if I wanted to abuse it, but I wouldn't. I can see this working for home schooling hot spot, better than nothing.

I've set up several craigslist buyers on Qlink with my old Sprint Prepaid, the ones from Ringplus and Tello. Assurance used to be very limited on phone selection. Best to stay clear of customer service, most will drive you crazy and not helpful.

edit, If your flip doesn't have a sim then you have to go through the system with a new tracphone, I used my new Samsung J7 and they have all three sims, I chose VZW in this area over ATT and Sprint. Once that sim is working then you are free to use unlocked phones.
I feel like you wrote a lot to say so little

Best plan for those in these programs is no cell phone. That's how we made due when in need. No cell. No cable. Etc.

Not everyone is too stupid to accept help when it is offered.

Tried Safelink last year - got approved - the SIMM never worked - and as many say here support is pathetic at best - there website is horrible! too! - So now going to see if Assurance wireless will work - I basically gave up on Safelink - so this thread was useful - 7-10 business days now to see how crappy the phone is!

Went from RINGPLUS to Freedompop too FreeUpMobile - ( which has no DATA at all )

This information may be outdated because the No. 1 of your list Access Wireless provides the following plan in my area:

Minutes: 250
Text: Unlimited
Data: 3 GB

Qlink Wireless has:

Minutes: Unlimited
Text: Unlimited
Data: 5 GB

I am not qualified for this program but from the data you know which one to choose
