Seagates aren't doing the best with failure rates...

WD/HGST appear to be the way to go.

It's probably a better deal for most to get the $295 Seagate Expansion externals, and spend 5-10 min. shucking each drive for the savings. They, too, have EXOS X inside, with a shorter (3-year vs. 5) warranty. YMMV of course. Do some Google searches to substantiate this. But...

Repped, and also I wouldn't shuck such a large drive; I'd want to carry it, or shuck it into a more durable usb 3.1 hdd case Smilie

What kind of warranty do you get when you remove the drive from the enclosure?

I swore off Seagate after getting burned by bad Ironwolf firmware that it took them THREE YEARS to patch.

I've had 2 of these running for a couple months no issues, I'd rather have a 5 year warranty and no worries than save x dollars and be up the creek if one goes bad

The savings is like 20% the cost of the drive and the failure rates of most drives are <1%/yr so it doesn't really make financial sense to spend the extra money for the very unlikely chance of a failure

12TB is 270 after 10% coupon. Why is this one better?
Check this out on @Newegg: Seagate Exos 12TB Enterprise HDD SATA 6Gb/s 512e/4Kn 7200 RPM 256MB Cache 3.5" Internal Hard Drive ST12000NM001G - OEM https://www.newegg.com/seagate-ex..._-08262020

I'm still confused about Exos vs Ironwolf vs WD Red Plus.... I know WD suffered from the SMR debacle, but I keep hearing yays and nays on Exos being better than Ironwolf or WD Red (Plus).

Ironwolf attracts me for the higher read speeds and the 1Mhr MTBF. I thought I read somewhere that Exos, being an enterprise type drive, can be louder.
