Just thought I'd mention that Walmart has Mesquite Wood Chunks for a good price ($5.58). I don't think this is a clearance or sale price because it's been this price for a few months. But it does go out of stock now and then. I ordered my bag a few months ago and still haven't used it. But it measures about 15 inches high with an additional 2 inches on top for a handle and about 12 inches wide. According to Walmart it weighs 166.8 ounces (or a little over 10lbs). It is 570 cubic inches worth of wood. If you do research you will find that this is one of the lowest prices for this bag of Mesquite Wood Chucks. Amazon is charging around $15 for this same bag.

You can probably order and have it shipped to your local Walmart for pick up if they don't carry it or you can get free shipping on orders over $35.

I personally don't use much Mesquite in the smoker but I will add some in now and then. It adds different flavor and it's strong. I do like it though. I usually use Oak and Hickory which grows wild in my part of NJ.

The one weird thing about this product on Walmart's website it you have to select the Dot for the Color (see the picture).

As a side note, there was another Slick Deal post about Home Depot clearing out Kingsford brand Mesquite Wood Chunks back in June. It was a 350 cu in. bag for $2.20. That's not bad either if you can find it.

Anyway, just mentioning it because Labor Day is coming up.
Happy Smoking to all you Smokers!

Probably depends more on what you're smoking. I usually use Apple, Cherry, or Hickory and mostly smoke pork ribs and butts. Tried Mesquite once (don't need to buy it here in TX... everywhere) and seemed a bit strong.

I'm getting an error too. I don't know what happened. It was working earlier.

If you like a strong smoke profile Mesquite is a good option. I like a strong smoke flavor once in a while, but mostly cook for my family, so I usually go with mild woods like cherry, apple, and pecan.

I've had bad experience with Western brand wood chunks and now buy B&B wood from Ace Hardware, good stuff.
