Walmart today officially unveiled its new membership service and Amazon Prime rival, which it's calling "Walmart+." The $98 per year service will combine free, unlimited same-day delivery on groceries and thousands of other items, with additional benefits, like fuel discounts and access to a new Scan & Go service, similar to Walmart-owned Sam's Club, that will allow members to check out at Walmart stores without having to wait in line.

The service will be available starting on September 15, 2020 nationwide, reaching over 4,700 Walmart stores, including 2,700 stores that offer delivery. Members can choose to pay the $98 per year after a 15-day free-trial period, or they can pay $12.95 on a month-to-month basis.

Start 15-day free trial - https://www.walmart.com/plus

link is enabled for registration

Mobile Scan and Go FAQ (watch the video) - https://www.walmart.com/plus/mobile-scan-and-go
It seems you can scan items as you shop and while ready to checkout, you would still have to use payment counter using QR code to checkout.

Check availability in your area - https://www.walmart.com/plus/free...d-delivery

Fuel discounts - https://www.walmart.com/plus/fuel-discounts

walmart plus membership plans faq - https://www.walmart.com/plus/faq/...ship-plans

Walmart+ includes unlimited free delivers(for a minimum $35 every order), and can include same-day deliveries and access to early product deals. This is actually a continuation of its Delivery Unlimited service, and subscribers to that service will automatically see their subscriptions converted to Walmart Plus. So far, deliveries and online deals may not be very different between the two services.

Are you expected to tip on delivery? Target pushes a tip hard post delivery. 15 percent of a large order can get pretty pricey.
Yes you are expected to tip and will get an email after your order to leave a tip. These are door dash employees. If I am understanding this correct all you are paying for is same day delivery. Without plus you can get next day delivery but you pay like a 5 dollar fee. So you would really need go have more than 2 deliveries a month to break even.

This is basically just a minor upgrade to existing Delivery Unlimited service (also with identical pricing). It is primarily a grocery delivery service and I don't see this as apples to apples in any way with Amazon Prime. We have been Delivery Unlimited members since 11/2019 and its been great for us. Walmart grocery pricing is the same for delivery as in-store and substantially less expensive than Amazon (no comparison really), and also better (including membership fees and gratuities) than shopping at our local grocery chain (Publix). The $35 minimum is not hard to meet when shopping for groceries. Grocery delivery also saves a ton of time vs going to the store.
How much do you tip on a typical grocery delivery order?

I was not only speaking for myself. It was commented this will help rural customers.
Walmart has 4500-5,000 locations nationwide, lets say 3k of those are in rural areas. If they are not willing or able to service customers that live within a 5 mile radius from those 3k locations then exactly how does this help rural customers? It doesn't.

How about if you are already a Sams club member (Sams has Scan and go as part of their membership at no additional charge) then you get Scan and go for free at Walmart?

Now that would be smart.

Only thing I'm not liking so far is the inability to add family members. My wife and I have separate accounts. Now we have to decide whose to use.

That depends on how big the order and if they have go up stairs. But I have read tips start at 7 bucks and for big 300 dollar orders should be tipping 20 bucks. The whole tip thing is what ruins this service for me.

The Scan and Go feature is really sketchy. You just scan things with your phone while you shop, throw them in a bag when you get to the self-check out, and simply scan a QR code on the screen. It would probably be much quicker if you brought your own bags and just loaded them up as you shop.

There's no notification on the screen as to what happened - the only thing that changes is that en e-receipt appears on your phone. I was not approached by any employees, or even the employee at the exit, to have my receipt checked. If someone really wanted to, they could just simply "forget" to scan something as they're shopping and walk right out with it.

It just felt "dirty." As great as it was to breeze through check out, I still submitted my experience to Walmart.

I'm seeing ads for this everywhere and it's not even available in Oklahoma yet. 😡
I don't know where you live, or how the service is divided up amongst regions, but I was able to sign up for it in Midwest City. We use grocery delivery every weekend and I even used the Scan and Go service at a Walmart on the south side of Oklahoma City.

I would probably sign up for this however it never shows delivery time available for the day no matter the time I check.

Only thing I see showing up is Express delivery in 2 hours for a $10 charge.

Awesome. So while they dis-invest in all of the stores and run a skeleton crew, their answer to that is pay them more money?

Shoplifting will be too high for this to be sustainable.. Crime and shoplifting are already up during this trying time, now Walmart wants to make it easier?
$98 membership to shoplift at walmart?
This is not much more than a thinly veiled racist post. Shame on you!

Walmart needs to rethink this. What does the consumer get for $98, NOT MUCH. Amazon Prime and Fresh are MUCH better options. This is a very poor marketing tool. There is nothing here that is breathtaking to the consumer. This will be viewed negatively.
Amazon Fresh is only a better option is they will deliver to you. If they're not delivering to your area and Wal-mart is, this is a no-brainer. I'm in.

Used Scan&Go today, was awesome! Saves so much time especially if you buy a large number of the same item as it lets you put in the quantity after scanning. Cut my in-store time roughly in half
