The DWS 715 saw, with a single bevel and no XPS, also is back on sale for $199 at Amazon [amazon.com].

It's ok. I was excited, as I'd consider the slider. Thanks.

Are the extra features of this saw worth the additional $100 over the DWS715 for the average homeowner?

Given 99% of average cutting is outside in the sun where the light guides get washed out, XPS is fancy, but unless you have an inside shop with controlled light it's less impressive. I leaned towards a 12" slider with laser add on ($20 anywhere) that works better in sun. And they make XPS kits if you want to add on later, seems a better route for anyone looking to go the next step above a 7" Ryobi.
edit: also note a slider adds a ton of weight, but worth it once set up. if you're constantly hauling it around for simple 2x4's then a non-slider is fine, but I've used my slider way more than I thought I would.

So this model appears to be the lowest priced 12" DeWalt miter saw that has XPS, is that correct? Think it'll come down more in price on future deals?

This all depends on if you will use the extra features, so nobody can truthfully answer this other than you. Money can always be saved by avoiding features that you don't need. Personally, I tend to purchase a few more features than what I need to avoid growing out of my tools, gadgets, or toys.

Get the DWS779 over this in my opinion. You'll regret dropping $300 on a non slider when the time comes and u need to cut a larger piece of wood. Yes this model has the shadow line but after u gain experience of making cuts as a newbie, u won't need the shadow line. If the shadow line is a big deal to u then u can always make your own. YouTube has videos on it.
I got the 779 with a stand for $400 and added the shadow line myself. Pretty easy with this kit: https://www.mmtoolparts.com/store...kit-dewalt

Excellent miter. I had a contractor over doing my bathroom and he used mine over his lol, though he did call me some choice words for having the shadow line...

If you have a Menards store in your area, you can get Home Depot to price match Lowes on this saw, and then do the 11% rebate that HD offers to match Menards current 11% off [homedepotrebates11percent.com]. That would bring the end price to $266 after rebate. But only works if you have a Menards in your area.

UPDATE: My local Home Depots do not have the XPS model in stock, so the 11% rebate match won't apply. However, this deal at Lowes goes until Sept. 15, so maybe they will get some in-stock by then? Anyway, check your local HD before you try to do the price match and rebate match. The latter is only good on in-stock merchandise.

If you have to ask, probably not.

Why not just buy at Menards then? Don't they match Lowes?

Remember the slider is extra 15 pounds heavier and thats one reason as a home owner not considered dewalt sliding miter saw

The double bevel allows you to cut angles/bevels from both directions without having to flip the piece over (left end to the right, right end to the left), which is useful for things like crown molding.
