my copy paste for whenever i see a yi camera, so people know what they are getting into:

i have just about every camera made by yi. i dont trust them to be inside cause of china servers... as much as folk may say its tinfoil... its a legit concern. they are doing some sort of checking in with the home servers. that has been proven. so inside, no good.. and outside they are about worthless. even on the lowest frequency and sensitivity they will pick up every bug that flies within 10' of the camera and every leaf rustle... enough where i have, no exaggeration, about 100-200 motion events overnight. yet, if i go outside right now and walk around my house, there is almost a 100% chance that one of the 5 cameras wont even record me walking by.

not only that, you cant set one camera to alert you for movement and another to record, but dont alert me. record=alert. so that camera in the driveway that sees 200 motions overnight? and that camera pointing at the inside of my front door? if i want both to record movement events, i can either be alerted 200 times overnight, or be alerted zero times. there is no way to record without alerting. so basically i wont get an alert when it matters, or it will be lost in the sea of 200 alerts which is pointless anyways. i gave up and turned off app notifications in my OS.

truly worthless. the only value is that if something does get broken into, their faces might be caught on 6 second recording... as long as thats not the 1 out of 5 times it decided not to record.

not to mention the evening recording with the ir sensorts seems to drop quality from 1080p to 133e. seriously. from the same distance, during the day a person is easily identifiable, but at night, i can barely make out who just walked up my driveway when it is people i know.

It is showing 39.99 for me. Is the deal over, or I am missing something?

Doesn't seem like you really used the app.

You can turn off motion detection for each camera individually in the app. Not only that, you can also specify different schedules for each camera to alert you.
Put in a SD card to continuously record so you have more than 6 seconds of recording.
App video viewing defaults to SD but you can always switch to HD view. I found that their computer app shows the video much clearer than in the app, but then I am usually too lazy to turn on a computer.
Security concerns is legit but you can put it on the guest network.
I understand from some friends that have Nest that the Nest feed is instantaneous whereas you might have to wait 10-15 seconds sometimes to connect to these cameras, but I cannot see myself paying so much.

I am seeing $40 and not $34.

I have had this camera for 3 years on my front porch. It works well enough. The motion detection is garbage since it doesnt have a PIR sensor so a shadow moves and I am alerted.

No need for the cloud service they provide as an SD card can continuously record. I originally bought a non high endurance SD card for this and it lasted 2 years before dying and moving onto a high endurance which works fine.

The app works alright but recently half the motion it detects are not recorded accurately and i cannot see what it recorded. The live view used to be quick and seamless but now takes over 10 seconds to load with no changes in my internet (fiber with an average of 700Mbps down and 150 up). My ring cameras that are farther out than this one load almost instantly and are not connected to an extender so i am not sure what changed.

Edit:

Is it worth $35 now? Based on the issues i am having now, no.

If i had bought this originally at that price, maybe haha

Wansview has a limited time deal on their outdoor cameras at Amazon for $28.89. Built better that Yi but still suffers from motion false positives and no SD card.

Now the listing shows 33.99 but when added to cart it still shows 39.99. Wierd. Tried incognito as well and still the same. What's up with that.

So the price is changing between 33.99 to 39.99. The 33.99 one is for pre-order. You need some patience and luck to got the deal. Already placed two orders.
