I finished my basement around a ceiling mounted projector being 12' away from the wall. So all these short throw projector deals just mean that soon a "regular" 4K projector will be around $500... which is how much I paid for my 3,000 lumen Optoma 4 years ago.
Because a shirt throw laser 1080p is $1000 somehow that equates to a standard 4k being $500 soon?

I dont follow your logic.

That looked like a very expensive tape dispenser at first.

Could this be put against a wall to throw onto an angled ceiling?

Short throw projectors are newer tech, more expensive and more sought after than standard non-ST projectors. So yes, if ST projectors go down in price, that will help bring down regular projector prices. Same reason LCD TVs are much cheaper now than the past because of LED and OLED tech.

Can this (or any other) short throw projector he mounted on the ceiling? I have a stealth setup with a retractable screen with no media center/credenza to set this on.

Currently I have an old viewsonic that's hidden in a cabinet on the other side of the room but the bulb is going so it's time to upgrade.
Yes you can although in my experience, ultra short throw projectors are a lot harder to position properly especially if there are no zoom/lens shift.

I don't know why at these price points, one would not opt for LED over Laser. All specs seem equal, except laser costs more and does not last as long.

Right now I'm looking at the
https://www.lg.com/us/home-video/...-projector (LED)
and the
https://www.lg.com/us/home-video/...-projector (LASER)

Specs (LG):

LED laser
lifetime 30k.hrs 20k.hrs
contrast 150k 150k
brightness 1500L 1500L

Plus, buydig has a shadyish reputation and I would not trust their "open box scuffed" nonsense, especially with a projector

I own a LG short throw LED, and love it for casual tv/movies
I dont know differences but laser is cheaper right now... (?)

Common theme with this projector. Contrast not as good as other 1000 dollar projectors. Must be dark room. Too bad. Looking for a high contrast laser projector

Color was nice out of the box, as well as the WebOS and remote. You have to watch it in complete darkness for the best result just like any projector. It is connected to my AVR where my bluray and computer is attached. The image is projected to a 120 inch screen. If you are only using it for viewing movies then I would give it a 4 star, however if you are going to use it as a super giant computer monitor then you will be disappointed because the text are not sharp on the corners, and no matter how much tweaking or adjustment you do one corner will be sharp and the other will be soft. If adjust that soft corner then the other corner will turn soft, and vice versa. Same thing when you are looking at pictures. I don't know if that's the drawback of UST projectors or mine just have an issue. But you will hardly noticed it if you are just watching movies, but even though, it's annoying. On dark scenes it is not as black as I would like it to be. Since I am a newbie when it comes to projector, I can not totally say that it is the projector's shortcoming, because I am just using an outdoor screen that is hanged on the wall of my living room. I am positively sure it is going to be different if I use a dedicated hometheater projection screen. That is why I am just giving it 4 star for watching movies and 1 star for using it as a computer projector.

Don't the laser rays from the projector towards the screen catch the viewer's attention and bother?

Got it for ~$650 open box last year. One of the best purchases ive ever made. Haven't tried gaming but it's mostly used in my bedroom at night and works great.

I have the 1080p equivalent. The reflective mirror was on eBay for $75 shipped from Korea. There's a video on YouTube how to replace it. 30 mins or so.
Sure you can get the mirror from Korea. Is that what you would expect from a projector at this price point ?
