Idk, this is so closely priced to alternatives with discrete graphics gpus.. maybe not as solid built as a thinkpad, but that's a trade-off to get better stuff like no soldered ram.. etc
Comes down to what you need from a laptop, for me, the build and form factor is a priority for me vs. a discrete gpu. Nowadays, I work outside for gigs and need a workhorse that's light and going to work in cold and hot environments.

Already ordered a T14 but I'd consider cancelling it to get your configuration. I get $800+ like everyone though. BTW, EB was 10%.
What is EB?

Most thin and light laptops have soldered ram...so if you want/need a thin and light laptop....

For those of you asking how I got $699 price: chat with the rep and they can give you 5% off. My employer had 50% off as opposed to 40-45% off through other epp links

It's a thinkpad. I know I'm going to get some "Not Helpful" likes, but one should not be comparing corporate lines like ThinkPad to anything else here on slickdeals. Alternatives to Thinkpads would be HP EliteBook and Dell latitude.

I had Dell XPS 15 in a past, and I, personally, found it subpar to Dell Latitude I had. YMMV.

Could you suggest How is this thinkpad compared to Thinkpad E14/E15 Gen 2?

This one is twice as fast and 13 inches instead of 14/15.

Also, the E series is the lower end small business series while the X series is the premium ultra portable line.

No AMD laptop has Thunderbolt... yet. It's just a matter of time.

I'm not sure how you can blame Intel. Intel makes Thunderbolt 3 controllers that manufacturers could include on their motherboards/computers. Very few do.

It's just convenient that the controller is also included in the Intel chipsets.

"E" is a lower end of thinkpads, I believe. Can be wrong.

Its too low. My understanding is that you never fill an SSD too much past half full. If I'm wrong correct me so I know. But if its true you surely couldn't have much free space left to play with.
I see. You are probably right, I don't know much about it. Anyway, I put most of my stuff on MS OneDrive and Google, so not a problem for me.

this deal is stupid good--in for one. thanks OP.
guys, i work on these machines for a living in my day job--they're designed to actually be opened up and worked on. upgrading the m.2 ssd is an incredibly trivial task. seriously.

for an extra $100 + like a 6 minute Youtube video, you can upgrade this thing's storage to a 1tb and have the absolute best bang-for-buck laptop on the market.

scratch that, it's literally going to be the best. if you need a high-end laptop for the next 4-5 years, this is it.

BTW, don't ignore Windows 10 Pro upgrade. I'd rather get this than fingerprint or IR (windows hello) camera.
I know you can get Win 10 Pro from somewhere else cheaper or even for free (like a friend with MSDN), but when ordering with it, the OEM will actually embed the key into machine BIOS and activate it with Microsoft for you, try it with
wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey

so you don't have to type it anywhere and save and risk losing it.
