New Amazon Third Party Guidelines do not Make Sense

1,492 527 September 8, 2020 at 09:11 AM
I recently posted a legitimate post for Hyundai hard drives. It matched the lowest prices for them ever. Just because they are sold by a seller that has less than 1000 reviews does not make them invalid. This was not self promotion from me or Hyundai. I bought one of their drives in the past and really liked it, so I noticed they were on sale and bought another one. I know a lot of people like cheap, but reliable hard drives. I think this new policy will reduce a lot of good deals on Amazon and will kill the spirit of SD.

Hi,
I appreciate that you took time to write up the deal and wanted to share it with the community, we thrive on members doing just that.
We also work diligently to combat shilling in order to protect the integrity of the site. We do our best and sometimes members aren't always happy. I apologize for that.

This policy is not new at all. We spent the better part of a year going over how to remove most shills and Amazon 3rd party spammers without hurting new legit merchants. We analyzed a lot of our own data and then leaned toward making sure we were as favorable to new merchants as possible (meaning much more manpower in banning shills) before we implemented this policy over 4 years ago.https://slickdeals.net/e/9051583-amazon-3rd-party-merchant-policy-is-back-in-effect
We even tried to rescind this for a while while relying on a different tool to help identify ratings but found it wasn't as trustworthy as we had hoped and had to go back to this which is when the thread was put back in place 4 years ago.

It seems you guys pick and chose which posts go down. Take example this one:
https://slickdeals.net/f/14327522-team-group-gx2-1tb-sata3-ssd-74-99-amazon?src=frontpage
This is less than 1000 reviews and is not sold by Amazon, yet has been frontpage for over a day.

Hi Jimi,

Slickdeals policy requires Amazon 3rd-party sold products to have 50 product reviews and the seller must have at least 1000 store rating. In order to see the seller rating, you'd have to click on the 3rd-party store name. For example, for the one you linked, the store has 1579 lifetime store rating as of now & 926 product reviews for that SSD.

https://www.amazon.com/sp?_encodi...&sshmPath= (store rating)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PX2KKHM (product review)
