If you've been considering upgrading your suitcase, now's the time: Away is launching its first-ever sale on both its core line of luggage as well as limited edition colors of its bags. The not-so-creatively-named "We're Having a Sale" sale runs from September 9 to September 15, 2020, and features discounts up to 50 percent off. Since popular colors of Away's cult-favorite suitcases are known to sell out even when there's not a sale, you don't want to dawdle on these deals.

These are a huge, huge ripoff for mass produced, made in China plastic luggage. Like most other online direct to consumer brands, their only innovation is in paying obnoxious influencers to market their generic products by comparing them to high end brands and undercutting them just a bit. Doesn't matter if it's mattresses, glasses (no coincidence that the founders are Warby Parker alum), or underwear, all these online direct to consumer companies are cheap compared to actual established brands but still expensive if you shop around.

I did a lot of comparison between Away and the Sam's Club Member's Mark hardside luggage [samsclub.com], and ultimately came away realizing that these two products probably came out of the exact same factories in China. They have the same wheels, same telescoping handles, same grab handles on the sides, same zippers, same lock, and even come with the same luggage tag. The only difference was the styling of the exterior and some minor differences in the inside zip bag organizer. Both sets even advertise the same Makrolon polycarbonate. When I bought the Member's Mark carry on, it was $50 vs the Away carry on which is $200+. Now Sam's has a set with carry on and checked bag that is $100 vs $500+ for the equivalent Away set (didn't check the sale price because the website is down for me).

I've only had it for around a year and a half but I dragged the Member's Mark luggage on shopping trips around streets in Bangkok and Seoul and it has been an absolute tank with really smooth wheels, so I assume that the Away is similarly high quality. They're the same product, so it's up to you if you want to spend the extra hundreds of dollars on paying the salaries of influencers and poor millionaire CEOs who verbally abuse their employees (or stand idly by while it happens) while turning around to give lip service about empowering women, or if you want to save a couple hundred and pay the salary of the billionaire CEO of...Walmart. As a Slickdealer I'd rather save $500 and get the Sam's Club luggage.

Edit: Now that the site is back up, I see that you can get a big carry on + big checked bag for $122+$147 = $269, so the price differential is only really $169 now, which is a lot more reasonable especially if you really prefer the Away designs or if you're buying it as a gift. The aluminum luggage at $237 also looks like quite a deal.
This is the best luggage.

After a perfect night of sleep on my Casper mattress with MyPillow, I love to wake up to a clean trim from my Manscape, then I pop in my Ray J earbuds and admire my lifetime warranty Away luggage.

I just bought a Briggs & Riley at a decent discount, but still it was $300+. How does the Away quality compare? I initially wrote Away off as I didn't see it being worth $250 but at half price it may be enough to pull me back in. Though I am a fan that the Briggs is soft sided.

I'd like to know the same thing. Anybody has experience with both, please share your experiences. Thanks

No idea. I was also curious what time the sale starts because I couldn't find that info as well.

Looking for both a carry-on and a big suitcase, can anyone recommend what sizes to get / most practical?

We love our Aways. We have accumulated pretty much the full range (Carry on, Bigger, Medium, and Large) and they've done really well. One of them cracked and Away replaced it immediately, no hassle, no fuss. Have traveled all over the country and internationally with them without issue.,

How is warranty handled? Do you mail it back or take it to the store? If by mail, do they pay for return shipping?
