You can buy a USB charged starter pack and leave it in the trunk with the tire or glovebox. Just recharge it every 6 months - 1 year. This is all the tow truck companies use to jump start a car now anyway.
Agreed. Unless it's flat dead, portable starters are great. Can't agree with tossing a good battery just because it's reached a certain age. Bad for the environment, but your money your choice really

I saw a few deals around (Gooloo brand?) but I didn't jump on them as I thought they're a waste. Unless I'm a tow truck company with frequent use, the battery sitting idly will degrade after a year or two, so basically almost no use and to be thrown away in 2-3 years. It's like buying insurance, but just one more thing to keep track of. I do have a jumper cable in my car all the time, but so far it's me jumping other cars at least a dozen times, not for myself yet.

Car batteries is bad for environment, but the battery in the portable starters is not? The car batteries at least get used everyday, the portable starters, not so much?

I know they charge me a fee for new car battery, and refund when I bring back the old one to recycle.

Auto stores offers battery and alternator checks for free. You can just go by every 6 months when the battery gets 4-5 years old. That way you get to keep an eye on your alternator condition as well. You can get a battery powered jump starter but that's another battery to keep track of that you will rarely use.

What I've researched their rebranded deka which are one of the best, I just bought an interstate from Costco because same warranty lower price, but deka is suppose to be one of the best.
The actual US lead acid manufacturers of auto batteries is East Penn (deka) , Delphi, Exide and Johnson Controls. Duracell is likely a JC. You need to look closely on the battery to identify as custom brand is common (e.g. Autozone, Motorcraft) . I have a close friend who works for a battery recycler and in his opinion the Penn is slightly better on the quality which means they may have a longer life. Who sells East Penn... Advance auto for one. Optima was excellent years ago but new management needed more profit so they lowered quality and I would no longer recommend. I can verify that AGM is worth the extra cost in Diesel trucks. They seem to handle the additional vibration and have a longer life by years.

Sams is a night mare when it comes to Battery or Tires division...Its hard to get people or appt to do things...They dont honor times, dont pick calls, always say no staff available and my experience with Costco is more reliable.

is Duracell a good brand for car battery?
Regular Duracell lasted me 3.5 years in my 2012 Civic. Then when it came time for replacement I upgraded to the "Duracell Gold" car battery for the same car so we will see how long that lasts....
My stock OEM battery from Honda lasted 4.5 years. I Live in a moderate climate.

I have no brand loyalty to Duracell, it's just that Batteries Plus installs them so fast and also if you order online they are one of the only places that doesn't charge you the core charge if you check the box for installation so there's no hassle with dealing with a refund for the core charge since they never charge it in the first place. I have a Sam's membership but COVID must have been going on when I replaced my battery that's why I went back to Batteries Plus since most Sam's Auto stores are closed, but I assume they are selling batteries still (no installation)? I know a few are open.

Duracell doesn't make the battery. It's just branding.

Reviews aren't the best. If you aren't a diehard (pun here) SAM's club member, you will have warranty headaches should the battery give out while not a member.

I bought mine from batteries plus as well, I've been having a lot of issues, I actually bought their higher end Platinum AGM battery, after 6 months the battery started having issues. I need to see if I can get it replaced under warranty but I regret not buying the dealer battery

These are just rebranded but, all of the Sam's Club sold Duracell automotive batteries we have purchased in the last few years have all been made by East Penn (deka) and have been very reliable. All that we have purchased for various vehicles are currently still going strong.

Bummer, just bought a 48 Series Interstate at Costco for $120.... how does Sams price compare?

FWIW Costco service was amazing.

Nuts, definitely auto only, marine batteries not discounted
None of the powersports batts it seems :/

Makes me cringe dropping $100 on an ATV battery.
