I changed all the interior doors in my house to these types of handles. Originally it was for looks but they also make it so much easier to open doors with your hands full. Also younger kids can open doors mich easier which could be a negative for some of you.

Anyone else got this one caught on your pants belt loop? I thought it was hilarious when it happened to my wife a few times...until it happened to me...human death trap....jk. We just had our first child, so it's on my to do list to change all of these out due to the ease of opening. Or does anyone know of a way to child proof these knobs?

On another note, HDs cheapest (decent) knobs are around $10 per so this is a deal.

I have this type. It happens every once in a while, but not enough to outweigh the convenience.

Yes, you can child proof these - search for 'Lever Handle Child Proof' on Amazon or Google and you'll find all kinds of solutions. Our friends used a contraption that goes behind the knob that makes it so you can only pull up (physically stops the lever from moving down). That allowed adults to use it while kids couldn't. Guess they work well enough if the child doesn't figure out to push up (they will, eventually). There's also a kind I believe that serves more as a 'lock' that prevents the lever from moving either up or down.

Whichever style you choose, the safety is kind of an eyesore. Pretty bulky and very noticeable. We had knobs in our house and our son couldn't turn them and push/pull until he was a little over 2. To me, a knob is a good deterrent and is much more attractive than safety proofing lever door handles.

Sounds like they need parent-proofing, not child-proofing.

Yes, a few times and usually when I'm carrying supplies .... But my doors are 28" and bath is 24" so it's barely wide enough to carry something through. Getting this for when I move with 36" doors that should be enough to clear it. I like the look and the ease of use.

Coincidentally bought one of these earlier this week to add a lock to my office. One thing to note is that the circular trim that covers the hole the door knob goes through is smaller than the Schlage door knob it replaced so had to get some touch up paint to make it look clean.
