Best to avoid refurb and used HDD. Also, Newegg has poor customer service and misrepresents condition of products.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 40,000 hours on these. Stay away

As above...

Remember, there is no cost-effective way to truly refurbish a hard drive.

I've bought these kind of drives before, pretty much the same M.O. At the time I bought 4 at once, as mentioned, they had 35-40k hours on them. As I was planning to use them in a raid config for plex media and other odd things, didn't really care that they were refurbed. I bought 4 in 2016 and 2 more in 2018. All still going, with heavy usage from plex (have about 20 users sharing the account). They were dirt cheap and was good enough for what I need them for.

I personally wouldn't use these out of a raid config, nor keep critical/important data on them.

I got several of these in the past. They are retired server drives. Smart data was wiped. They have been dependable . The way I look at it is all data should be backed up whether the drive is new or old.

I use these for media server drives without a problem. They are loud but boost hitachi drives are anyway.
