Darn was waiting for a non YMMV/no clearance hunting deal like this, but I guess I waited too long because as of February, SoCal Edison started specifically excluding Nest thermostats for it's $75 energy saving rebate. Great deal nonetheless especially since the tax free edge it has

I was bummed to hear SCE end their rebate for nest thermostat as well but I did some more digging and SoCal Gas is actually giving a rebate if you haven't looked into that yet!

Awesome thanks for reminding me. They just started a 50% bonus promo too, bumping the rebate to $75.

Look for deals around the holidays via pseg or your provider. This was $30 last year but the wiring was not compatible with the wiring in my home. I needed the upgraded version

What are the downsides to this versus the standard nest?

Cheaper material but software and performance are all the same. I personally like the way the standard nest looks (sleek, modern). This has a more retro look

Dang, waited forever for a deal on these and instead ended up buying a couple used ones on Ebay for $105 each a few days ago.

Definitely check with your local utilities first. Where I'm at I can get one for $14. Ecobee, Honeywell, Nest of varying models at various prices.

NVM, found it! Save More with SCE Rebates and Incentives [sce.com]

I think you have your links confused. The first link is to an expired program. Here's the link for the latest SoCalGas rebate program.

https://www.socalgas.com/save-mon...ce-rebates

As for your SCE links, even though they have the Nest thermostat in their marketplace, it doesn't have the rebate banner on it. Also if you go to the SCE smart thermostat program rebate FAQ, it specifically states Nest thermostats are now excluded unless you enrolled before 2/19/2020.
