In the twenty-second century Earth obtains limitless, free energy from a source science little understands: an exchange between Earth and a parallel universe, using a process devised by the aliens. But even free energy has a price. The transference process itself will eventually lead to the destruction of the Earth's Sun—and of Earth itself.

Only a few know the terrifying truth—an outcast Earth scientist, a rebellious alien inhabitant of a dying planet, a lunar-born human intuitionist who senses the imminent annihilation of the Sun. They know the truth—but who will listen? They have foreseen the cost of abundant energy—but who will believe? These few beings, human and alien, hold the key to Earth's survival.

Bet Asimov would have created a better "religion" than Hubbard.

All the Foundation books are very good, even the prequels from around 1990. But the rest of his novels are mediocre. Now short stories--Asimov was the best at those. I'd pick up a collection of his short stories just to make them accessible to my kids.
I thought End of Eternity was quite good as well, but it's been over 40 years since I read any of these.

Can't beat "I, Robot".

Harry Seldon would have been able to use large aggregate population numbers to figure out the pandemic. I would LOVE to get the entire Foundation series and re-read for the 84th time........

Legitimate deal or a torrent "deal"? I am definitely interested in a legit deal on the "Foundation" series.
Sounds like one of those phishy emails where they end up stealing your identity and favorite pair of underwear or something.

You mean as a collection of short stories, right? That's probably why the Foundation is good too (since he created it in installments).

I haven't read a lot of his novels. I've tried to read several and they're just not nearly as good as his shorts. He was THE BEST at short stories. Stuff like The Last Question: https://templatetraining.princeto...asimov.pdf

His novels are fine, but they're kind of like Star Wars novels--they're acceptable for what they are but not one of the great works of the English language.

Yes, it is a collection of short stories. "I, Robot" is more fun than Foundation, especially for a kid.

I was wondering what age to share The Foundation with my daughter. She's 7...13 was old enough for me. Maybe I'll start with "I, Robot" in a year or two?
