Metabo HPT (Hitachi Power Tools) 4-1/2" 6-amp Angle Grinder $39 w/ FS

From Amazon:
  • INCLUDES: 4 1/2" Angle grinder, five grinding wheels and a carrying case
  • MOTOR: 6.2 amp motor [irrelevant marketing wank removed]
  • SIDE HANDLE: removable, forward-canted side handle for improved control and comfort for right and left-handed users
  • LIGHTWEIGHT: Only 4.0 lbs for greater control and maneuverability, especially in overhead applications
  • LOW_PROFILE: Get into the tightest areas
  • GRIP: Smaller design makes for a more comfortable hold and reduced fatigue
Maybe be able to price match at Lowes b/c sold by and shipped by Amazon.com (aka not a sketchy vendor) YMMV. If you go the Lowes route, be prepared to show the customer service person the Lowes.com price match policy regarding Amazon (pull it up on your phone before you get in CS line).

This is not as low as the Feb / June sales, but if you need one now it's 20% off the everyday price of $49.

I bought one b/c my $20 HF model is starting to go out from grinding too much thinset. It's hard life is why I'm not replacing it with a Dewalt or Makita. I hope this helps someone.

Good catch. It's mislabeled on Amazon. It has been since the previous sales of this tool. The $53 version is from a sketchy vendor, not Amazon--hence the old Hitachi-branded photos. The one I linked IS the kit, but does not include the Hitachi chop saw. Thank you for double checking though.

It says tool only. Are you certain this is the kit?

Still $39 for me.... The link OP gave [amazon.com] includes case and blades.

The OP had mentioned same and like you, I purchased then and had shipped as a gift.... The 6.2 amps is a bit short on power, but not terrible and with the case and blades, even this $39 is not terrible. These are light enough with a narrower handle to hold with one hand and perfect for light/medium duty, such as cutting tiles, etc.

I've used this angle grinder extensively. It's got enough power for 95% of the people are going to buy it. For cutting tile it's just okay. Even with the best blade the run out on the arbor is going to give you a little bit of chipping.

It works fine for cutting concrete block and roof tiles. Also used it for cutting steel hurricane panels. besides grinder isn't great for that task but it got the job done nonetheless.

The only time I've wanted more power has been using a cup grinder. It's okay for thinset and stucco but it could have used more power for concrete.

All that being said it's held up great. Under heavy load in Florida summer heat it can get so hot you can't hold it. But it's never smelled burnt. it works fine the bearings seem fine the cord and cord relief are all holding up. The original brushes are still good. It's a great value in my opinion.

I'm not expert, but I think this is a great deal. I just bought a 4.5 inch one from Harbor Freight (with lower amps and zero grinding wheels/case) for $20. So with the case and a handful of grinding wheels, this looks like a great deal to me. And it's a better brand than Chicago Electric (or whatever it was from Harbor Freight). The single grinding wheel i bought from HF was about $3, I think.
And like a previous poster said, this amp rating is probably plenty for almost all users (other than machine shop people that are grinding all day). I used mine little HF one to grind masonry and it worked like a champ for a couple of hours.

When judging if this is a good price or product for you, remember that it is light-med duty (thanks @ToolDeals). It's not a 7" Hilti/Metabo/DeWalt/Makita/ or Milwaukee. It's a 4½" Hitachi. It's better than a Harbor Freight or Chinese knockoff brand, but below the ones I just listed.

Here's the price history on CamelCamelCamel. Change the timeframe to the last year and note that this is the first more-than-a-few hours sale in a while. Keep watching the product because it will occasionally go lower after the first lowering--but at $30 they sell out quickly. I bought one Wednesday and it's a decent price. If it goes lower, I'll ask Amz to price match themselves. If it doesn't, that's ok, it's a decent product that comes in a proper hard shell instead of in a purse like so many others (better for bouncing around in a work truck).

I bought this same set in 2018 for $29. It's still going strong. Nice tool. I'm a DIY weekend fixer, so not suing it everyday for my job or anything.

For those still wondering if this is a complete kit or "bare tool only" please see the photos from my Amazon box that just arrived...if not on this post, photos might appear at beginning of thread. Idk. Preview is acting strangely.

If this was useful to you, feel free to toss me a rep.

This is a KIT, not a bare tool. I confirmed that the photos are not visible on the mobile version of the website. Sorry. I have no control over that.
