Whichever you buy? $4 vs. $25.

Cadence is more accessible, but I'm not plunking down that much money just in case I might like it.

Start with this one. This game is very enjoyable if you like roguelike games, the soundtrack rocks (you need the music).

I'm going after cadence when it goes on sale.

I believe there is a demo for this (there is for cadence) so you can try it first to see if you are into the rhythm-rogue-like mashup.

Cadence has a demo, so you can try it out. It'll also give you a good sense of Necrodancer's gameplay for anyone who hasn't played it.

And just to be clear for anyone who doesn't know, Cadence of Hyrule is basically a Zelda-themed version of Crypt of the Necrodancer.

This game is super unique and it took me a lot of frustration and finally watching videos to understand how to play. Once you lock into how it works, it's a blast and not as difficult as it seems at first. Be warned, though, it's got a dangerous level of "I'll quit after this one last try, for real this time" addictiveness.

Definitely spend quality time with the demo of Cadence of Hyrule first. It turns out that my brain seriously doesn't work in a way that allows me to enjoy these games.

If you can't hold a rhythm, play as the Bard character. It has a fixed beat mode.

In the Zelda game you can enable fixed beat mode in settings.

"Fixed Beat" mode is a mode which removes the rhythm mechanic. Essentially, enemies move immediately after you do.

Not sure how fun it is playing this way.

Honestly not a huge fan of randomly generated world like Necrodancer. Cadence of Hyrule does have randomly generated dungeons, but the overworld is handmade, and there's a real story, progression, bosses, etc. that isn't there in Necrodancer (or maybe I just gave up too early).

Cadence was well worth it to me. I never really got into Necrodancer. I like the gameplay concept, but wasn't pulled in by the rest.
