$350 for some shoes that are purposely distressed so they look dirty right out of the box. I'll never understand it.

80% are those who have just found money. The rest are those who copy hoping to be trendy.

Clearly you don't shop luxury footwear. Luxury brand sneakers are often $800 or so. The few luxury brands like Balenciaga, Givenchy or Valentino that will rarely put their shoes on sale will take at most 30% off which still makes them about $560. So $350 for Gucci, LV or other brands which never go on sale, are really an almost shocking steal if you desire such shoes.

It isn't fair to criticize it, no differently than it would be a true bargain if a $200,000 luxury car is on sale for $120,000, even if that is way beyond what average people pay for a car.

Why do people like to show their ignorance? Someone needs to pay attention to the major luxury fashion houses if they are unfamiliar with such prestigious well-known brands. I can't imagine anyone who is trendy and aware of high end fashion not being aware of Off-White, Balenciaga, etc which are some of the most coveted brands in luxury footwear. A simple Google search will show you what you need to know. I don't think you can call those brands "garbage" unless you also similarly think Ferrari or Aston Martin are garbage just because they are far more expensive that other brands.

These are regular payless shoes with Gucci logo. Just buy it from payless for $20 and write Gucci on it urself. No one will ever know or care tbh
While whether the style appeals to you is a matter of personal taste, I don't think you can possibly compare the workmanship, construction and materials used in a pair of Gucci shoes with what is used at Payless or even Nike. If you actually inspect and feel them, you can see the flawless stitching, fine details, and first class materials that make all the difference in the world. Same as feeling a high end designer Italian leather sofa will be completely different from a Target PU-leather mass market item. Or as another example, comparing the stitching, leather quality and suppleness when sitting in a BMW 7-series car compared to the leather used in a Kia seat.

I agree if someone is buying a pair of shoes just for the giant Gucci logo that they otherwise think are ugly, then that is a bad reason, but like I said, design and fashion style is a matter of personal taste.

I do understand questioning whether the increase in price is worth it, but that's why there are people who fly business and first class, and those who fly Spirit. Everyone has different priorities.
