Sound accuracy is a big thing, but really unless you already know all of the reasons and are someone who could answer your question far better than I can these are not for you, and the benefits of them would be lost on you. For the vast majority of people, they would not be able to tell the difference between a $300 and $3000 headset when it comes to the subtle nuances between how they sound. It is something you need to really build up knowledge and an ear for it to be able to get any benefit and it has greatly diminishing returns.

Sometimes with really nice headphones like this, the average person may actually think they don't sound that great because they are expecting something different since the intent of these is to represent the sound as accurately as it was intended by the person that created it. Taking a sound system and bumping up the volume on a subwoofer for instance may make it sound better for a lot of people, but that makes it less accurate compared to the original intent and this comes to personal preference and what you are looking for.

It isn't wrong to not be able to appreciate or notice these things and it isn't wrong to enjoy something different as well.

Another more universal comparison would by a TV, for the average person they wouldn't notice color accuracy in a TV and often people prefer features that kind of objectively make things look worse. Good examples of this could be people turning saturation up way too high so that "colors pop and look vibrant" but for a videophile, it looks atrocious. Another would be turning on motion smoothing or high framerate options on TVs that add the soap opera effect which some feel looks good, but for others like myself it looks really bad and causes video artifact issues and other issues that make the picture quality objectively worse, but those people don't notice/care about those things so they feel it is an improvement.

TLDR; If you don't know why you need these already, they aren't going to be for you.
Hi, can someone quickly tell me why (these) earphones cost $400? What does this have that other earphones don't have?

I wish they had the B50 back for $249 or less again.

easiest example is the difference between land lover and toyota rav 4. both are cars and both are 4x4 suv's.. why the $60-70k difference? some may say brand name, some may say build, some may say features, materials prestige or 20 other things someone may say for it or against it.

imo, these are some of the very best earphones out there at any price point. well made, comfortable, and great sounding.

Are you referring to Beyerdynamic Xelento Wireless Audiophile Tesla In-Ear Headset $649 at Newegg?

In terms of money there is a big difference of $250 between these two deals, not sure of SQ difference though..

Yeah, I assume Xelento is on a slight higher level to compete with W80, but I don't know if it is really worth the $250 difference from this W60.

there is no wireless earphone/headphone/any other setup that can compete with wired, if you have proper source and other components.

The Xelento wireless comes with a wired cable as well, so you can just use it as wired.

These are by far my favorite headphones. I liked them so much I got custom ear pieces and ordered a second set as a backup. So, I have gotten 2 sets on previous 399 deals. If last year is any indication, these will hit 399 a few more times over the coming months.

I have the Sony xm3s and use them regularly. How would these compare to over ear headphones? Or even the iPod pros? (For those who have both)

I'm very impressed with these. There are a big upgrade to my W40's and very close to the W80's but with a more intimate soundstage, which I actually prefer. The v2 BT has AptX HD, which is a huge step above most BT headphones as well.
