Lots of people wants to use this (garden soil) for Potting soil, which may not work, but you can use this to make your own potting soil. I used below mix for making my potting soil for $3 or less.
6 cu. Ft of MG Garden soil +3 cu.ft of Peat moss + 1 cu.ft of perlite +1 cu. ft of manure
Will make around 13 to 14 cu. Ft of potting soil (about 100 gal.) This worked good for veg. garden.
I did find few pieces of glass, plastic and other junk, in all garden soil products not just MG.

I got some when HD had the .75 for $2.50.. I will be using it to reseed my Tall fescue lawn.. putting a thin layer on and then tossing the seeds on top, starter fertilizer.. then some peat moss..

This is a better deal than the HD sale.. but I like the .75 size bags since it's easier to move around..

NO! Use topsoil or lawn soil.

This wouldn't work well in planters as it's pretty dense and heavy and drainage and aeration will be a problem for most plants. You'd have to either mix it with something lighter like peat moss or high-quality compost, or just buy ready-made potting soil. I've tried using this in planters and learned the hard way that it's not a good idea.

Isn't garden soil basically an organically richer version of topsoil, but comparable in density?

Either one. A container is a container whether a pot, planter or raised bed, and this soil is unsuitable for any of these, by itself. Mixed with something light, it could be.

So what the heck is this good for? Everyone is saying this isn't good for it being used on the soil for reseeding. It's not good for a bed or pot unless you heavily mix it with other combinations.

It's not clay. lol
