Strongly reminds me Motile. If ram and storage is upgradable can be made to be a decent laptop. Screen is full HD, has decent CPU and amount of ports, lightweight but with listed specs I would say it would be slick under $300.

I would have agreed 2 months ago. But the shortages have become worse. There is such a demand for the 300-400$ laptop market with nothing available.

They probably just slapped their logo on some Chinese company made "generic" product, kind of like Walmart did for Motile. Or someone paid to use their logo although I think it's not such a good advertisement IMO.
Might not be bad but getting parts or repair can become PIA.

ACER bought the Gateway name many years ago. That is actually a good thing. Acer makes some of the best quality laptops in the world. So you could think of this as an Acer laptop, just at a lower price point. That makes it a very good deal. IMHO

Yep, it's another budget shell of a laptop but with all the non-replaceable parts being decent enough that it's strongly worth considering. A 1080p IPS display and a very serviceable APU.

The Motile models had two, one that was a 4GB/128GB/Ryzen 3 and one that was an 8GB/256GB/Ryzen 5. The latter was far and away the better deal that everyone seemed to want, and would still jump on if it ever showed up and dropped down to a slick price. I suspect this would be a similar story.

In my opinion at least, the colors on this model are actually quite beautiful (I like the blue), the trackpad looks roomy and the keys a little softer around the edges than the Motile's.

I'm tempted to give into the instinct to just snag one for having around as a backup laptop in the event my daily driver fails, but I also know there's a ton of students out there still learning remotely who could use this a lot more than me, and I'd rather they have it.

I actually have and use Ryzen 3 model of Motile. I've upgraded ram to 16GB, WiFI card to Intel AX200 and installed 256GB samsung NVME as boot with 500GB SATA M.2 as storage. At first I got good deal locally on silver version but didn't like how back light blended in and actually made letters to be less visible so sold it and got grey one off ebay and that one is pretty much perfect for my demands.
P.S. Big question here is IF RAM is up gradable (it says it's on board which usually means soldered), if it's not then its a major drawback for this system especially with Video using system RAM for it's resources and considering it's running windows.

Motile: That time Walmart execs wasted a bunch of time and money slapping made up THX certifications all over sub-$500 laptops.

Gateway: That time when Walmart decided to team up with an actual computer company (Acer) to make sub-$500 laptops.

Slickdeals: That time when a bunch of people who will never need more than 4GB RAM claimed soldered modules are a deal breaker on a sub-$500 laptop.

This isn't an Acer. It's a bmorn: http://www.bmorn.com/index.php/pr...126-2.html

Yeah, this! They seem to be Walmart exclusives, and the only laptops branded with the "Tuned by THX" were their Motiles and EVOOs. I'm thinking they leased the Gateway name for their new line.

This has the same specs as the Motile that used to go on sale for $199, the Gateway branding is much better than Motile IMO

Acer has been good in my house. Chromebook lasted many years with kids having tug of war fights over it. Acer laptop still going strong. Lenovo Ideapad lasted only one year extremely well cared for by adult.
