The new RED 5400 class are actually 7200rpm drives now. So yeah. WD marketing team has no idea what they are doing. Pretty soon they will have a skittles edition with the slogan taste the rain bow

Bought one of these in the past and it failed in about a year and a half
3 year warranty, submit a RMA. Last time I had to they send you the replacement then you send the failed back in the same box.

Got two 3TB Purples in my Dahua NVR that have been with me through three NVRs now. After 5-6 years of 24/7 recording 9 4MP cameras they're still running strong.

I need 8TB and it's all out of stock
Its in stock right now. https://www.newegg.com/purple-wd8...6822234373

FYI a few months back I was looking into upgrading from a 4Tb purple that run 24/7 for past three years to a bigger drive. No issues with the 4TB purple just needed more space and my PC could only take one 3.5 inch drive. The WD purple 8TB have different iterations, most recent is 82PURZ. The 81PURZ consumed less power and made less noise. The newer one is 7200RPM. WD no longer lists the 81PURZ but you can get it at retail stores like newegg. I have attached the recent WD purple datasheet link for anyone interested.

WD datasheet purples[/URL [google.com]]

Oddly in the 10TB purples both the 101PURZ and 102PURZ are 7200 RPM but the 101 consumes less power and has less noise. The difference is a small difference in transfer rate.

Personally i prefer low noise, power, and 5400 RPM drives but these are getting harder to get in larger sizes at least with WD.

suitable yes, however surveillance drives are tuned to prioritize writes so the performance curve is slightly different

Would these be suitable for use as NAS in raid 1?

Where is that quote from? Do you believe this statement? I'm think about getting a few of these.
