It was a good decision after you pay $100 and if you put a claim, another deductible applies. Then, if the hinges go out again, you are out the cost of the laptop.

To TRY to prevent cracking, you would have to remove partially the glued on bezel, and then use a wrench to loosen the screws that control the tension on lifting up the cover. Other people added glue and foam in there as well. IF they have to replace the screen, doing this kind of screws that up too. I made the mistake once and will never do that again.
Thanks, but I ended up buying Nitro 5 from BB for $669.
Picture is OK, I expected a little better, there is some back light bleed, not horrible. Sound is great, very nice virtual surround, keyboard is OK, but overall for $669, I think it's a nice laptop, I hope it lasts couple of years.

I wonder who is supplying these hinges to MSI. Years ago I worked for a company (American!) that supplied laptop hinges, and ours was always made of Zamak 5 and rated for 20,000 cycles. And our hinges were torqued to coexist peacefully with bezel plastics. Those were the days when computer manufacturers actually cared about both the durability and feel of the hinges.
