I came here partly to badmouth this product/company, and partly to find out if anyone has found a alternative firmware or something that makes the web ui on this nvr useful. If youre going to connect this to a tv for surveilance and dont intend to view remotely, then i suppose its a pretty good system, but the web ui uses flash and no modern browser has a plugin for video. The software is glitchy and its not intuitive how to set things up, or what will even work if you do. Laview must have at least a half dozen mobile apps for android. None of them work well
The work around I use on the LaView is to run it through an old iPad and cast it on a Apple TV. Not an elegant or cost effective solution if you don't own the hardware but has worked for me over a few foaling seasons.

So can anyone confirm whether or not this actually comes with the bonus devices?

I don't see a mention of bonus devices. It appears that this DVR is a hybrid that can record 8 hard-wired BNC connection. In addition, as a 'bonus' it can also record two network-based cameras via IP over Ethernet. So, (poorly written) it has two bonus record channels built into the same unit.

I've had poor luck with Laview equipment. Thus, it's a pass for me.

Can you please share which Reolink system(s) you recommend? I have a standalone wireless solar-powered Reolink camera and definitely like the app so I'm wondering if I should get a full-fledged surveillance system from them.
Hi! Reolink 5MP 4 dome cameras with the nvr is been working really great for me. I just ordered my 6th system for another place I have to install next week. Even though wired is more pain to install over the long run its more reliable.

Thanks for the input. I can't seem to find any good Reolink system with black cameras which is what I want. I think I'll probably get something like this Reolink recorder [amazon.com] and then a couple of this Armcrest camera [amazon.com] assuming the camera brand doesn't have to match.

I setup a LaView system last year for a rental property. The customer service is pretty bad. I was never able to get anyone on the phone. The email support is so-so. I wouldn't buy LaView system again, I wanted to exchange one of the items I ordered, but was never able to get anyone on the phone. The apps are also terrible. Not user friendly

I'm considering the 4k Reolink for my home system. I've heard good things about them.

Not worth it to install a non poe camera now a days... The most expensive part of and camera system is actually cable installation.. Installing this means you lose out on future upgrade path completely...

I disagree. Running a low volt cable is way easier than installing a power outlet.

I'm reposting a previous post from a similar Laview sold by Newegg post:

I have a few things to mention about LaView. I'm a security camera installer and I've purchased thousands of dollars of equipment from LaView. Their products are primarily rebranded Hikvision OEM, however they do rebrand Raysharp as well. I've discontinued using LaView as my primary supplier, as their customer service is terrible. They have abruptly cancelled my orders without explanation. I now order my security equipment through Nelly's Security, who I will say are fantastic.

When LaView as my primary supplier, I had several issues with my credit card accounts being compromised. After being reissued new credit cards several times after fraud detection, I decided to test my theory in January by using a fresh one-time use credit card (Privacy.com) to make a purchase through LaView and then immediately closing the card. I later received a notification that an attempt was made on this card. Of course I can't say that this 100% proves that LaView was at fault for the credit card compromise, but I would say that this is pretty strong evidence as the card was not used elsewhere. I have attempted to address this issue with LaView customer service in the past and have received zero response.

This fraud issue isn't such a problem with this deal specifically as this deal is through Newegg, but it may be worth considering that the manufacturer of this product has poor customer service and likely lacks the security to prevent their customers from having their credit cards compromised.

A few more considerations to make about this deal:

This system is Hikvision OEM. For those unfamiliar with this, the best short explanation I can give is that the vast majority of security systems out there are manufactured by one of three different companies, Hikvision, Dahua, or Raysharp. Complaints in previous posts about the Laview Apps are valid, however, most of Laview's equipment is compatible with the Hikvision version of the same mobile apps (Hik-Connect and IVMS) which are nearly identical and likely updated more frequently. Another popular alternative is the Guarding Vision app. IPVM has a short list of other common Hikvision-OEM brands: https://ipvm.com/reports/hik-oems-dir

This system is an analog coaxial system. This means it uses older outdated coaxial/BNC wiring. The current preferred wiring for security cameras is ethernet. Power Over Ethernet (POE) allows camera power and data to be transferred over one ethernet line. Going with POE rather than coax provides a better level of future-proof to your system.

Although these bullets are advertised as 4K (8MP) and many consumers may be drawn to this as 4K is the current advertised resolution standard for televisions, resolution is just one of many factors concerning video quality. Often times 4K (8MP) cameras make compromises in terms of frame rate and record only at 15fps. I've found 4MP at 30fps to be preferred over 4K (8MP).

With all of the above considered, if you're looking for a security camera system and your budget is $190 I would have a very difficult time finding you a better deal for a 4-camera system. Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for.

So for all the discussion.....i want to replace my Arlo system at my home because they are a piece of shit company w garbage product that semi-works and a joke of a support system. I have 7 cameras total. How hard is it to run these cameras, etc other than the normal running a cable challenge?

Any better alternatives?

You won't be able to have a reolink nvr and amcrest cameras. If it has to be black cameras then I would go for the amcrest nvr as well.

These Reolink 5mp cameras are poe, these are low voltage cables and don't need a separate power source.
