This is a new model of miter saw stand by rigid and normally be priced at $130 or above. It is a new model with 30 reviews averaged at 4.5 stars so far. Given its well accepted big brother AC9946 ($199, was on sale last BF for $99), this one likely will stand up to its brand reputation.

Any recommendation for something more compact for the occasional weekend warrior remodeler? Thanks

Excuse my ignorance but what things do you typically make out if this machine? Can it cut for crown molding or is this mainly for circular type objects cutting?
With a miter saw you generally make crosscuts (horizontal cuts across the grain) or miter cuts (diagnals, like the corner of a picture frame). Most modern ones are called compound and also let you do bevel cuts (ramp angles). Yes, a very common use case is molding, but they're also great for things like consistently cutting 2x4s to a certain length. For crown molding, you generally want a compound one. Miter saw cuts are straight and short (generally, you can go up to a 2x6 w/ a 10" miter saw @ 90 degrees), but can be a bit wider with a larger or sliding blade. For circular cutting, you generally want a jigsaw or band saw.

Please note, this deal is for a miter saw stand, not the saw itself. You can get a decent 10" compound (non-sliding) one for about this price. I use a Hitachi one that goes on sale near BF every year and it's been great, one of my most used tools.

The thing for sale is just a stand.

It is meant to carry a miter saw. Which cuts boards and trim like molding.

Looks the same as my Craftsman which was the same price. I hate it doesnt stand up on its side. I would recommend getting something else. Takes up too much space in the garage laying down lengthwise. If storage isnt a concern its not a bad stand.

Not OP but I had also looked into building a DIY one for my garage too. Here's ayoutube video [youtu.be] to make a mobile miter saw stand on wheels that has a relatively small foot print. However, factoring in convenience and cost of lumber and hardware, I don't think a $99 miter saw stand is too far off.
Bitterroot DIY (YouTube) has plans for one. It's a super simple build and offers the small but accessible footprint.

Yeah, supposedly HD is doing a month of black friday like deals, I would be surprised of the better stand isn't $99 again this year. I love mine.
I'm betting $129 as the msrp of the stand went up to $229 a few months back and has held steady.

Would you recommend any design plans? I'm guessing a stationary wood one?
A google search may give your some ideas.
I even put the miter saw on a base cabinet that was thrown out at construction, worked fine for me, but not good if friend wants to borrow

Thinking about the stand and saw. Like $550 for both with 15 percent off of that if I sign up for their CC.
you can get it cheaper than that. Look for coupons, insider club hacks work too. Check youtube for insider codes

I bought the Delta stand for $99 a few months ago. I have a 12" dewalt sliding saw and it carries it no problem.

Waiting for the gravity stand to go on sale. That's the holy grail
