Great deal on air filters which are getting harder to find nowadays. Many sizes in stock at the time of this posting.

Link to rebate:

Rebate options:
$5.00 if you buy 2 x 3 packs (would need filler to qualify for free shipping) - $26.76 after rebate + filler + tax
$8.00 if you buy 3 x 3 packs (free shipping) - $39.64 after rebate + filler + tax
$12.00 if you buy 4 x 3 packs (free shipping) - $51.52 after rebate + filler + tax

Cost per filter would be ~$4.29-$4.46 (+ tax) depending on how many packs are purchased.

No will loose effectiveness
that's completely wrong. i googled everywhere and thats what they said. because they wanted to sell their filters. its very easy to modify and you will not lose anything. i kept my original fabric, just blended it to the edge.

merv 5. not qualify for this MIR.

also, if you go with merv 5. better off using the washable one.

of course he told you that. the dirtier the air that goes through your system, the more dirt gets on the coils and reduces their surface area. this reduces HVAC efficiency making the system work harder and reducing it's lifespan. his advice will lead to premature system failure making him more money when you have to pay for a new HVAC system.
well my 30 year old gas HVAC system seems to be running just fine with the cheapest filters I can find always being installed (replaced every 3 or 4 months depending on the weather). Except for a $25 solenoid being replaced inside the unit and a leak in the AC condenser outside, it has been running like a charm.

And the same HVAC contractor that told me to use the cheapess filters said my system could easily last 10 to 20+ more years

heck I am so cheap, I only need the 20 x 20 but buy the 20 x 36+ and just flip it upside down and use the clean top for another 3 months!

Yep, merv 13 minimum. But at that point, you begin to lower your life on your heater blower, and energy bills go up the more you block air.

Best to just use a box fan with a filter attached for filtering out smoke, and run it on low, so that it don't burn out the motor.
Nope... MERV11 is minimum for smoke. And many modern HVAC units are rated to run these full time. Source: talked to a heating a cooling repair place

You may have a point in a perfectly tight house with no outside air leakage or drafts from window and door seals or wall outlet boxes and ceiling exhaust fans. But in the real world this isnt the case. All the air in your home does not go through the blower filter and even less air goes through a high merv filter especially in an older house. IMO its simply a waste of money to buy high merv filters for the consumer and more a marketing gimmick .
Yep, if my primary intake vent gets blocked, it begins sucking in air in the 1x1 return air vent downstairs, which isn't supposed to have a filter for it. (Or at least it never came with something when I bought the house brand new). Should I unscrew the vent, and put some sort of mesh inside?

About the rebate, what's the original seal of purchase from the filter package means? I understand and have done the original receipts but seal from package? They mean the barcode on the package box?
In the picture, the disposable orange wrap around the top of the filters that says "Filtrete" in large print has the UPC code. So no, no need to tamper with the filters in any way.

This. I got in a heated discussion on here with some moron who claimed to be an AC tech that said by using a high merv filter you actually used LESS power and it was easier on the blower motor. My god its scary the kind of untrained idiots doing AC service these days.
Yes, it's possible, if you don't turn on unit at all 😂😂😂😂

All you guys talking about normal sized filters makes me jealous. I can find only one brand for mine. It's merv8 and it's $65.

I bought 3M 20x30. It was oversized by a few mm. Had to force it and smash it a bit.
Yeah that's what she said

Can I get a 20 by 25, cut off an inch and support the end with strip of cardboard?
You definitely can do that. I don't even bother with the support on the end and have never had a problem, but could depend on your furnace ... if you're going to do that, why not just take the cardboard end off the filter that you're removing from the furnace, and attach it somehow (staple?).

My filter size is about 12.5 x 20 so I buy the 20x25 and cut them in half. Never had a problem. I guess if someone was buying the ones that filter the most, this might be counterproductive - but allergies to dust never have been a problem for me.

Home Depot does sometimes. But you have to watch their daily deals. They just had furnace filters about 2 weeks ago.
