From a previous thread...Wave

Sprint's 5G network has been decommissioned, and Tmobile's new network will not support Sprint's phones (except the Galaxy S20): https://www.androidpolice.com/202...st-merger/

So if you think this is a 5G phone, it is not.

'All of this to say if you own any Sprint 5G phone that does not have "Galaxy S20" in its name, it will eventually lose access to either network's 5G, period.'

Seeing that it will work on tmobile. Will this work on Verizon ?
My unlocked V35 works on both.

You're thinking of Velvet... V60 has a newer ESS DAC than what's in the v30-v50/G8. V60 has 5G, 865, 5k battery, etc.
You're right. Sorry about the confusion. It is the Velvet (LG8 successor) that doesn't have the quad-dac.

FYI the 5G on this phone will not work properly with Tmobile and they are in the process of converting all of sprint over due to the merger. Not worth getting.

So from my understanding reading this thread: if I'm on Sprint currently, I'm not going to get 5g, I'm going to lose 3g and won't have VoLTE? What? I've got a S8+ that's getting unreliable and am looking to upgrade, but it's sounding like I'll be missing out (or sacrificing) on features picking this up.

Love the phone, fantastic upgrade for me from V20 the last time this hit FP, but I hate the lack of VoLTE on TMobile, and a bit concerned about when they start shutting down 3G...
still sticking with my V20. i use the remote control in it daily. not sure why LG cut so many features. and i've already replaced the battery once, so its quite an improvement in the charge.

Not enough difference, I wouldn't bother. Only reason I didn't get the V40 was because the V50 was the same price on ebay. Battery life is better, but the rest is not very significant.
Thanks! I'm sure the V50 is an improvement, but I really like my V40 (and had been a hardcore V20 fan before that)

Man I wish this would work with Tmobile's 5G, both the n71 and the new n41 they got from sprint. Their 5g has been getting bonker fast and reliable. I did just pick up a Galaxy a71 5g for 350 open box, and let me tell you, it's a nice phone and it's got the right bands to use T-Mobiles killer network. Don't waste your money on a 4g phone. The a71 is going for under 400 on Swappa and it's going to be a much better experience than this.

Specs on this phone are good but the Merger of T-Mobile and Sprint and all the drama associated with what will and will not work network wise and you are better off just buying the newer v60 for more or holding tight. G8x is about equal in spec except for little less in Screen Quality. LG makes some good phones recently and they are really easy to fix provided you can get the parts.

I'm sticking with the V40 I have right now. They run about $100-220 on eBay. Demo Models sell for about $70-110 and otterbox cases are $10-15 which make them pretty much indistructible.

Shutting down 3G means no call service on a unlocked smartphone, what a smart choice to buy this phone!
How would this phone not work? 4g/lte is still a thing and true 5g isnt a thing. Mostley marketing and making 5g show up on your phone. Of course the phone would work. Its sprint though. So cdma and lte. Not gsm and utms primarily. If cdma is phased out lte still works.

On Sprint, everything except 5G (CDMA/3G, LTE, VoLTE) still works until T-Mobile decides to shut them down which probably won't happen for a while unless they want to lose all the current Sprint customers. The others in this thread asking about VoLTE are planning to use this phone on other networks.

I too love the LG V20 and bought extra 2 in case ....
So far it doesn't lack anything, and I will not buy a 5G only phone.4G is plenty enough for me and many needs. This thing has memory card slot, replaceable battery, fingerprint, decent cameras with raw and manual settings, metal body, headphone jack, which I prefer.
If I could load a different OS on this thats more secure than GoogleAndroid I would keep it as long as possible.

Not dual sim.

Darn, just bought this a few weeks ago at a higher price! Can confirm sprint version works fine on AT&T, but be prepared for a ton of Sprint bloatware. After uninstalling it weeks ago, some 15+ bloatware apps reinstalled a few days ago. Would recommend getting an intl version to avoid US carrier bloatware.

Feel free to ask any qs about the phone. One downside is no non-glass screen protectors on the market--the glass ones are always flimsy and fall off easily.

Battery life is great, cams are good, speedy processor, etc. No complaints. Longtime LG fan for their manual camera mode, hi fi quad headphone jack, etc--first phone with them was the V10 and I haven't strayed since. They're always fabulous quality for the price.
what you suggest about battery life and heavy user..I am realtor and use phone a lot

5G will not work

this sprint phone only uses NSA 5G (non standalone 5G, so the n41 must be paired with LTE band 41 in order for n41 to worj)

TMobile is ripping that n41+band 41 up, and this phone won't be able to connect to tmobile's n41
https://www.tomsguide.com/news/th...ed-to-know [tomsguide.com]

TMobile supports SA n41 5G (standalone n41 5G, don't need lte) and NSA n41+LTE band 2/66 (non standalone)
A lot was made out of TMobile's acquisition of band 71 but so far it hasn't made a difference where I am (hour north of NYC)
