This card will make $1.43 a day according to nicehash. that's a 153 day ROI. Personally I'd buy some used 8gb rx470/480/570/580 cards. They make $1 a day for half the price.
Except once etherium dag files get too big and/or the release of nodes for etherium will reduce the profits alot the rx470/570/580s will have little resale value, but this will. At a 0.4 to 0.5 Hash.Watt efficiency the power savings and resale should beat out those older cards. Assuming you should be able to resale these for at least $175, your ROI is more like 60 days...depending on the crypto market of course, could be 10 days, could be infinity lol

High end video cards were not crazily priced before 2007ish

Yeah really. This guy just wants to look down on people on here in his high horse
No it's common sense. I know I can't afford a high-end card. Luckily high-end cards are not targeted for gamers. It's pretty simple lmfao. The 3080 is a high-end card "for gaming" which is exactly what Nvidia states. Just because $500 is a lot of money to you doesn't automatically make every card $500 and up "high-end".

it sounds like AMD cards have issues compare to NVIDIA even though performance and price point gives AMD an advantage. so is it still better to get the AMD compare to NVIDIA?

Only 20 series had a crazy price tag.
30 series is back to normal range.
didn't the 2080 come out at the same price as the 3080, $699?

It did. but the performance was barely 5 to 10% more than a 1080Ti, which launched years ago for $650. the price didn't shift to benefit the consumer, instead new cards were added as a new line in conjunction to Pascal cards instead of replacing them. The Pascal cards released to replaced the Maxwell line. so a 1070 was roughly same performance to a 980Ti. but at a lower $430 price (no, those MSRP $379 were ghost cards). The new 3080 has performance to replace a 2080Ti (or the 3070 replacing the 2080Ti). If the Ampere cards parallel the history of Pascal releases, I see the 3080 shifting down to $600 with a 3080 Ti releasing for $799 (AIB cards being $879 or higher). Just like the 1080 sold for $599 (AIB cards at $650+) then shifting down to $500 with AIB cards at the $550 prices.

Anyone have any idea why the reviews for the MSI card are so terrible on newegg?

First shipments are of 3080 and 3090, a $700 and $1500 high end cards. Outside of dedicated video editing/rendering oriented cards aimed at specific industries and not the mainstream consumer, there were no video cards costing the same as a months rent or mortgage payment prior to the early 2000s
You could easily argue the same with cell phones.

Well, different people have different budgets and he has a point that people have different mindsets but you do get some of those iphone owners who just look down on anyone else using a different phone. An iphone user can just talk down at anyone using a Galaxy Note and say "Ha, just because you got a Galaxy Note doesn't mean you own a high end phone." You got people who can afford expensive stuff but you got people who mock and look down at people and be rude about it like that troll who's on this thread.
