Definitely preferred Fall of Reach over this one. Can't recall how much I liked First Strike but I think it was good from what I remember. This book was definitely solid though. I loved the small details that enhanced the original game.

One of my favorite parts was experiencing how much strain Chief was experiencing during the Library. Fun details like learning that his super advanced MJOLNIR armor was designated as a level 2 of protection and level 13+ was advised. Also finding the body of a normal marine deep in the Library with practically no armor and Chief in disbelief how he could have made it so far because he himself was reaching his limits. Telling himself he wish he could of met him because he must of been one hell of a soldier.

I'm surprised so many people liked this book. I remember this one being weaker than The Fall of Reach or First Strike. It was worth a read but i didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the other two.

Everyone talking about the first 3 books, but here I am thinking the 4th, Ghosts of Onyx was the best one.

Also, if you really want to get involved with the books, I really enjoyed the forerunner trilogy (Cryptum, Primordium, and Silentium)

Everyone is spot on here. The first entry, The Fall of Reach, is still the best sci-fi novel I've ever read. Eric Nylund is a masterful writer.
I read the trilogy (plus the follow-ups like Ghosts of Onyx and Contact Harvest) a long time back and absolutely love them all, and have very fond memories of them. This one is great too and is worth buying, though not as good as the first or third.

Right? Fall of Reach was a masterpiece, still the best sci-fi novel I've ever read.
As for this one, it has some great moments that just can't be depicted in video game form. Like the one you described, and in that same setting, when he had his first Flood spore get into his suit where it then managed to reach its tendrils to his spine, almost infecting him, only for it to be zapped & exploded by the electrical current running throughout his suit, thanks to Cortana. What a great moment.
This is an awesome justification & explanation for how the Chief remains relatively immune to the spores and why they explode when they touch him when his armor is at full shields in the game itself.

Thanks for all the recommendations of this book! I loved plaguing the Halo games when I was younger but never read any of the books. I knew a handful of people in high school who said they loved the halo book series.

I had $2 in no rush credits, so this worked out well for me! Take an upvote OP!

I remember reading the original 3 books when I was younger and they were fantastic. Molds in very closely with the first 2 Halo games.

It may just be nostalgia but between the books and the first 3 halo games, that's my perfect Halo canon...everything thereafter really didn't live up to what had come before.

I'm pretty sure I read the books up to The Ghosts of Onyx.

Noob question, but what we're the first 3? I remember one called first strike I think.

Are the kindle editions marked down often? Will pick this up but haven't read any of the series. Sounds like first four at least are worth reading.

The first book should be a must read for any Halo fan that's for sure. I was very impressed. In case anyone didn't know it's a little known fact they take details from how ancient Spartans used to train there young. And many other small details from ancient Sparta used

The Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike were the first 3 books in this series.

If a deal comes up on eBooks anytime soon I wouldn't think twice about getting them all and reading them again.

You aren't wrong. That one is probably my 2nd favorite and maybe my first if I was reading them again. That final battle sequence with the pillars lowering as they battle enemies is the battle i most want to play in the games. It would be epic.

I remember when I saw the end credits in H3, I was hoping so much (i know many others were as well) that the planet was Onyx. Oh well.
