Not Amazon. Coinstar does collect coins.

Don't forget to bring extra coins the machine miscount sometimes.
Oh! Didn't know

Theres no way they would know you aren't a new customer. It prints a code.
This would be detected by Amazon based on the login that redeems the codes. Not by the Coinstar machine.

If you printed a code from the machine and entered it into your Amazon account yesterday, then Amazon remembers you are not a new Coinstar customer because Amazon remembers that you've already used a Coinstar printed code in the past.

Well i guess this depends on if the coinstar is padding the extra $5 on or if amazon is doing it after the fact, I would guess its happening @ the coinstar...

edit: I do have a "coinstar account" tied to my email, I'm not sure why I even signed up for it or if it's needed when using the machine

just read this on the TOS "When you complete an Amazon.com Gift Card transaction at a Colnstar kiosk, you are purchasing an Amazon.com Gift Card In the amount you select and automatically claiming It to your Amazon Balance."
Hmm I wonder how that works..... I'm hoping you don't have to punch your amazon credentials into the coinstar touchscreen??

I didn't even know you make accounts for coinstar... II only use dit one time ever and I don't remember making an account. Also, I recall when i did it, the stupid gift card option wouldn't even work or it took most gift card options off or something.

I haven't used Coinstar in a long time so it might have 'changed' (get it?), but they use to not have the same gift cards at all physical locations so make sure Amazon is indeed one of the options before pouring change in.

I assumed Amazon adds the $5 bonus upon redemption of Coinstar $30+ redemption.

This is because this offer is advertised on the Amazon site and because all other "bonus" Amazon's are deposited as a separate deposit by Amazon, as a triggered followup.

Yeah, because scammers don't use number generators, right?

The first and only time I used coinstar was probably 10+ years ago. Didnt realize they had a fee, so got an Amazon giftcard. While seeing what to buy, I stumbled upon Rice Krispie Treat Cereal. I hadnt had that in years. I think I found a 4 pack and ate nothing but rice kirspie treats cereal for days. Very disappointed, I just checked and it seems they dont make that cereal anymore.
This is a very specific story. You must really like your cereal.

I probably have about $30 in coins and was going to do this at some point anyway... nice...!

(there's no fee when converting coins to e-Gift cards)

"There's absolutely NO FEE when you cash in at Coinstar for an Amazon.com Gift Card. Plus you can shop online instantly with your gift card."
https://www.coinstar.com/giftcards
their site lists amazon giftcards. they used to have this amazon offer like 7 years ago. not anymore. i ve checked at least 10 diff coinstar machines within my 100 mi radius. they do not have any amazon giftcards. the ones used to have amazon egiftcards in my area have removed amazon gc out of their list for more than 5 years already.
