$50 Panera Bread Cashback with New Apple Card and $50 purchase

This is an interesting email I just received. It says if you open a New Apple Card (for those who haven't yet), and spend $50 at Panera Bread within 30 days, you get the $50 back as Daily Cash. So basically a free incentive for new Apple Card users. Make sure you read the fine print below for the dates and how it works.

I haven't seen any incentives yet for the Apple Card, so nice to see them starting up.

Get $50 with a New Apple Card when you spend $50+ using Apple Pay at Panera for a limited time

With Apple Card, you get unlimited 3% back at Panera when you use the Apple Card with Apple Pay.

1. Subject to credit approval. Valid only for new Apple Card holders who open an account 9/15/20 through 10/14/20, and spend $50 or more at Panera Bread using Apple Card with Apple Pay within 30 days of opening an Apple Card account. Limit one offer per account. $50 cash back is earned as Daily Cash and is transferred to your Apple Cash card after $50 worth of transactions have posted to your Apple Card account. Returns of qualifying items purchased during the offer period may impact your cash back. If you do not have an Apple Cash card, Daily Cash can be applied by you as a credit on your statement balance. Daily Cash is subject to exclusions, and additional details apply. See the Apple Card Customer Agreement for more details. 3% Daily Cash and $50 cash back offer excludes orders made on 3rd party apps. Issued by Goldman Sachs Bank USA, Salt Lake City Branch.
2. Subject to credit approval and credit limit.
3. 3% Daily Cash excludes orders made on 3rd party app.
To access and use all the features of Apple Card, you must add Apple Card to Wallet on an iPhone or iPad with iOS 12.4 or later or iPadOS. To manage Apple Card Monthly Installments, you need an iPhone with iOS 13.2 or later or an iPad with iPadOS 13.2 or later. Update to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap Download and Install. Available for qualifying applicants in the United States.
Issued by Goldman Sachs Bank USA, Salt Lake City Branch.
If you reside in the US territories, please call Goldman Sachs at 877-255-5923 with questions about this offer or applying for Apple Card.

Wow, $50 credit in bad corporate food in exchange for a hard pull on my credit. Goldman Sachs is involved too, how wonderful. Might as well make it in Apple Store credit so people can put it toward the price of a simple charging cable.

While it doesn't make sense to get the card solely for this offer, I've been considering getting the Apple card anyway in the near future.

Looking to upgrade from my iPhone X when the new phones are introduced next month, the 3% immediate cashback + 24 mo. 0% financing is really the draw for me of getting the card (yes, I could buy the phone in cash upfront, but I'm also happy to let Apple eat the cost of inflation while I invest the difference).

Again, doesn't make sense to get this card solely for $50 at Panera, but if you're intending to get a new iPhone shortly, the card may make sense for you and this add-on may be a nice extra perk.

I did this afternoon. I'll let you know if it triggers the $50 credit.

Gift card purchase worked. I purchased the gift card on 9/16, $50 cash applied to my daily cash back on 9/17.

You purchased the gift card using the Panera website?

Yes. This requires applying for the Apple credit card.

I'm not mad at you, OP, a deal is a deal, but $50 CB on Panera is a joke. Panera's margins on food there are INSANE and you would not be hard-pressed to find gift cards selling for 80 cents on the dollar or less.

The percentage cashback offers are terrible except for Apple Pay, which is basically the catch-all miscellanious transactions not covered by a higher rewards percent on another card.

Re: Apple Card application process. Goldman Sachs uses a non-standard way of evaluating credit that compares total credit limit regardless of actual spend (which they consider "debt obligations") to your income. If your total credit limit is too high in proportion to your income, they deny regardless of credit score. However applying to the Apple Card does not impact your credit, even if you are denied. You only get a hard pull if you are offered the card and accept the card.

Yes, that's why it sucks.
