I was in Home Depot picking up some Phillips Hue lights and on the smart home section where all the NEST and RING products are displayed they had the Leak Prevention System with 1 Leak Detector on Clearance for $50

Reviews are mixed, but for $50 maybe worth a go. My store had 3, i picked up 2.

No plumber required

Features:

Includes Valve Shutoff Controller with Battery Backup, 1 Leak Detector, 1 Sensor Probes

Closes Off Main Water Supply When Leaks, Freezing Temps or Earthquakes are Detected

Use iOS or Android App to Control System from Anywhere

Seen these today also. They dropped from $100. Just got a dome zwave or would have given it a try.

I've tried the Dome water shutoff valve, as well as some generic version. Neither were strong enough to close the quarter turn valves in my basement. Is this any different in terms of the amount of power it has to move the valve?

And can it operate offline? Is there a local wifi protocol to access the device itself?

Edit: looks like you need the app for this to work. Needed to configure the device. So, this works as long as the company doesn't abandon the mobile app and server.

Thanks OP! I was able to return / repurchase after picking it up over weekend at the old clearance price of $100. Repped.

I did also see the stickers for the Hue starter kit on clearance for $20 but not surprizingly those were long gone - oh well!

Just checked the Home Depot by my in zip 66213. Briskseek said there were 4 left, and it was spot on. Unfortunately, these are still stickered at $100.04. Located in the "Smart Home" area, at the back, of course on the bottom shelf.

Edit: I checked the price at check out: rang up at $50.02.
3 left at that Home Depot. Seems like a reasonable risk at that price.

I worry about these they need WiFi or the server to be active. In a quake the WiFi might die. If this company goes bust (and they frequently do) and the server goes down, then you have a brick. Get one that is Zigbee or zwave.
Its a great deal at $50, but its a waste of $50 for that exact reason. WiFi for anything dealing with "critical aspects" like leak detection sucks. I am also not for Zigbee since its based still on a local network. Would be nice if somehow this could come with a cellular connection like my alarm panel. I'd pay $50 for that but must include at least 1 year of service included Smilie

I purchased 2, going to use the sensor from the second and see if I can sell the valve shutoff for $50. The sensor are going for $50.

I got one, but I'm returning it. It doesn't really work for my setup, something I need to change anyways. But I got this to see if it works better than the Dome I got awhile ago . The dome is better because it's smart thing compatible whereas this unit isn't. Just a FYI before purchasing this. Although it does say it works with IFTTT.

As others have mention, zwave/zigbee units are better for HA.

Store showed 5 in stock. But even the store associate was unable to locate it. Kept saying they haven't seen this in store.

Thank you. I picked one up today from local Home Depot. Inventory checker site was helpful locating nearest Home Depot that has leak detector in stock.

You can get a Samsung SmartThings leak sensor for like 20 bucks and it works well.

Go for a better solution with better company. You can do much better automation with Samsung SmartThings hub with leak sensors and Dome actuating arm. I have this setup and it has saved me at least in three occasions. Also no risk of WiFi going down or being hacked as SmartThings works on z wave technology

I have both the dome and this, they are both not strong enough to operate the valve reliably. The tap is not too hard either compared to ones i have used. The guardian has too many issues on reliability. All devices lost connection and the app shows everything fine. No heartbeat connection. They replaced all sensors with the new version for me but had the same issues. The valve controller manual button does not work when it gets in this stuck mode and you have to remove battery and power cycle to get it to operate.
Unfortunately i have not found any other in the market that works, waiting for a new product or if dome or guardian come up with a new better product.

I had the same problem with my Dome. But I finally replaced my values to new ones and now the Dome works just fine. My old value had some corrosion so it made It harder to shut off and on the value which makes the Dome do more work. Now the value is new, it works just great.

Full disclosure, I'm not a plumber or anything. I just watched a few youtube videos and went at it. Save a few hundred dollars and got my Dome to work.
