GoPro.com has GoPro HERO9 Black 5K Action Camera w/ 32GB SD Card + 1 Year GoPro Subscription on sale for $349.98. Shipping is free. Thanks SociableFog138
I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.
Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
That seems to be the best/safest solution.
Just adding two comments.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.
Glad they brought back the replaceable lens cover. That's the only thing i don't like about the Hero 8.

Can I know what's the deal(discount) here ? I see 9 price as 350$ with 1 year subscription. Is there a discount on top of it? I'm a pro subscriber already, do I get discounts on top of it?(I don't see discount when I login to my account).
Thanks in advance
That's all.
GoPro allows you the 'privilege' of accessing the true MSRP of $350 with an overpriced Plus subscription.
Basically this year's version of the trade-in deal, but to promote a different aspect of their business.
I went on a trip using GoPro 7 and it was a total disaster. The GoPro froze several times when taking videos. I had to pull the battery out each time to reset and lost the footage. Finally ended up using my phone.
I am hoping they fix this issue with the GoPro9.
I experienced the same thing. Its annoying. I hope it was jus a software issue and next update will fix it.
Decided to return the Hero9. Desktop Quik doesn't work with HEVC video, and Hero9 telemetry isn't supported, what a joke.
Other concerns:
1. Still no dashcam mode, and no ability to record OBDII data
2. TimeWarp sucks for drivelapses, the auto rate accelerates when moving faster, the opposite of what you want.
3. Hypersmooth pans left when the car turns right, and is fairly significant even at the lowest setting On (4K60).
4. Fourth generation on the 2017 GP1 SoC at 28 nm while the One R launched earlier this year with 10 nm.
5. USB C and microSD in the same door with the battery. MicroSD is also hard to remove.
6. Poor low light performance
7. Square lens incompatible with small replacement CPLs like for the Osmo Action.
I'm returning too, are you getting the Insta360 ONE R? Any discount code for that?
I was told by GoPro that they will not refund me the Plus subscription according to the terms and conditions!

Not sure if the cards are bad, but you should be using V30 cards, inexpensive Samsung are not rated that high and can lock up GoPro or other small devices.
Things for potential new GoPro 8/9 buyers to know, I owned the 8 and returned it and my buddy reviewed the 9. I still feel like there are way too many cons rather than pros:
1. The unit gets hot in 4K/5K recording and even worse if hot outside, it may power off.
2. Low light conditions especially at night are still awful.
3. Battery life is still a joke and way too short.
4. Audio recording quality is weak, way worse if you have the housing case on it.
5. The software flat out sucks on PC/Cellphone.
6. The 9 is a bit bigger than the 8, why are we going bigger?
7. USB C port and microSD in the same area behind the closed door stinks.
8. Accessories are nickel and dime, feels like you need way too many, only providing a USB 2.0 cable is a slap in the face.
Now for things that are great:
1. Hypersmooth 2.0/3.0 is very well done.
2. Sunny day image quality is great in 4K/5K with low ISO.
Question to the GoPro users. I would like to order some accessories along with the Hero9.
What accessories would you recommend for a hiker/backpacker and an occasional cyclist.
Thank you.
For hiking, a lot of people wear the camera attached to the shoulder strap of their pack, and you'll need a shoulder strap mount to do this. Personally I prefer a chest mount like the Chesty so that the camera stays on me even when I drop my pack. It's also nice to have a light tripod in your pack, such as the Max Grip + Tripod or the Shorty. For cycling, I'd pick up a helmet mount and a handlebar mount.
Also get the protective housing to protect the camera, especially while cycling.

do you have an alternative ... otherwise these comments are limited in its usefulness

I don't have one since this is brand new. Will see what DJI responds with; action cams shouldn't have all these issues at this price point. Therein lies the problem.
If you don't intend on using the external mic adapter the osmo action has been fine for me, had it since the day it came out. The external audio interface is garbage though so if you're working with external mics, the gopro offers much better performance.
I think the Osmo used to have garbage audio from the external adapter but firmware has fixed the issue and with the Cynova adapter it sounds good now.

Probably going to wait for the One R 2, I'm patient. Also want to see if Insta360 will include an accelerometer with their GPS.
Going to try and cancel the Plus subscription anyways, and CC chargeback if GoPro is sketch.

Because:
1. GoPro's still slumming the Hero9 with a 4 year old SoC (GP1) from the Hero6 in 2017.
2. Higher resolution of the Hero9 on the same 1/2.3" sensor size means worse low light than the Hero8.
5. GoPro no longer supports PC/Mac software

Insta360 One R:
1.Software update to avoid thermal shutdown and improve stability
2. 1" mod
3. Boosted Battery Pack Mod
4. $10 external mic dongle, compared to GoPro's $50
5. Insta360 software is head and shoulders above GoPro, especially the 360 shot lab. Insta360 heavily updates their firmware/software/app over time, unlike GoPro. For example, the One X continues to receive app updates (eg additional shot lab features) despite being out of production. In contrast, Hero5s, 6s, and 7s still have freezing, crashing, and shut down issues, but still no firmware fix from GoPro.
7. USB/microSD separate from battery.
I bought the hero9 + cloud membership + some accessories. The main accessory I needed, the waterproof housing, was out of stock. I scuba and gopro is 99% used at depth. The shitty e-store would not allow me to checkout with out of stock item. It would allow you to add to cart an out of stock item but not checkout. Right?
So, I had to remove the housing and checkout without it. I chatted the support right away, said, I have free shipping now but was unable to get the waterproof housing, can I get it shipped for free later when in stock? They said, we don't have that ability. Wow. in 2020 they are inflexible like that.
So, like 2-3 days pass, I see the housing accessory is back in stock, I chatted them again in hope to remove shipping, I was refused. Fk. So, I added another item to go over $50 and get the free shipping but now I have to flip the item, when it arrives, I don't need it.
So, now the other order gets shipped. Problem is that 1st order's tracking number continues to be invalid on UPS's site, the 2nd order with housing is to arrive tomorrow. After a weekend I chat them up again, they say that my 1st order was just shipped today. So, they lied it got shipped back then.
It is a cluster Fk at gopro.
Whoever is in charge of customer relations needs to go. An agent told me that to get the free shipping on housing I need to return my original order to them and then re-order together. Just that put me off. Now I find out they had my original order on hand all that time... It is like the support was made to be anti-consumer. Do they not see it?
Any reason for a better deal during Black Friday that could creep up for the Hero 9?

anyone else having an issue at checkout?
Sooooo frustrating! I've literally been trying to CHECKOUT for the past 3 days. I've tried multiple computers/mobile devices with different browsers. GoPro's website really doesn't want me to buy anything from them. I've been talking with their customer support throughout and they have no solution for me. Maybe this is a sign that I shouldn't buy it
